Did you know that originally it was thought that Egyptians domesticated the cat? But in 2004, French archaeologists discovered a 9,500 year old cat grave in Cyprus. 2.Cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping . According to Veterinary Hub, Cats actually spend 70% of their lives sleeping, which works out to around 13-16 hours a day. It’s a cat’s life! 3. The record for the longest cat . Domestic cats are usually considered to be quite small and dainty creatures. The world’s longest cat was a Maine Coon called Stewie, and was measured at 48.5 inches. 4.The richest cat in the world ? The richest cat according to Guinness World Records is Blackie. When his millionaire owner passed away he refused to recognise his family in his will and instead gave his 7-million-pound fortune to Blackie! 5. Cats walk like camels and giraffes . During British colonial days, the region was a tin mining powerhouse. Beach-lovers relish at the chance for a night on Pangkor Island. Throw in forest reserves, white water rafting and Malaysia’s own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Teluk Intan. Welcome to Perak. Colonial architecture in Perak’s cities Perak boomed during the colonial era. The state’s tin reserves enticed entrepreneurs who soon made their fortunes.. State capital Ipoh has several grand structures. This includes the Railway Station, Birch Memorial Clock Tower and the High Court. Travelers can follow the Ipoh Heritage Trail which leads around 24 colonial-era buildings and monuments. Pangkor Island Pangkor Island in the Straits of Melaka has empty coastlines, mountainous jungles and hundreds of hornbills. Tourists can enjoy spectacular sunsets, snorkeling and kayaking without the crowds. A handful of guesthouses line Pangkor’s western coast near both Nipah Bay and Coral Beach. Tourist can visit the crumbling Dutch Fort, Pangkor Town’s colorful houses and feeding wild hornbills at Sunset View Chalet. A spooky, half-finished mansion hidden in the jungle of Batu Gajah Kellie’s Castle is an eerie and allegedly haunted colonial mansion . A Scotsman migrated to British Malaya in the early 20th-century becoming wealthy from his rubber plantations. William Kellie Smith commissioned this mansion in Batu Gajah located 21 km from Ipoh. The colonial structure blends Moorish, Roman and British Indian styles. Smith suddenly died. His family returned to Britain. The half-finished mansion remained unfinished. Visitors can walk through the multi-storied structure and stand on the rooftop tennis court.

Perak Temple near Ipoh is the most visited.Religious icons and bronze statues fill the limestone caverns. Murals and calligraphy decorate the cave walls.Explore the different rooms inside the almost magical environment. Climb 400 steps to a viewing platform which provides 360-degree panaramic views of .Tin, tea and tiny cars in Ipoh’s museums in Ipoh Ipoh is Perak’s cultural hub. The city has several museums covering everything from the history of Perak’s tin to a tea museum. Head to the Han Chin Pet Soo, housed inside a former Hakka Miner’s Club, to learn about Perak’s tin mining. Check out Han Yan Hor dedicated entirely to tea. Miniature Wonders Art Gallery uses miniature figurines to depict scenes from Ancient China. The owner used dough to handmake every single model. Ipoh State Mosque Perak’s state mosque stands elegantly outside Ipoh Railway Station. The two-floored white-washed building opened in 1968. With a total of 44 domes and a minaret soaring to 38 meters (125 feet), it’s an imposing sight in old Ipoh. Look out for the intricate mosaic patterns decorating the exterior façade. The Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque has a function room, wedding facilities and a library inside. Perak’s largest mosque too. Write about a place you visited recently in 10-15 sentences. June 2023 English Language Society & HIP Bulletin SMK Dato Panglima Perang Kiri, Tapah Road 8 Top 10 Biggest Animals Animals take many shapes and forms and come in a great diversity of sizes, from microscopic to the 30 m long blue whale! Whether you measure in terms of weight, height or length, there is no denying some animals are huge in comparison to others in their class. 1. Blue Whale The Blue whale is the largest animal of all time, reaching a weight of about 198 US tons (180 tonnes) and a length of 98 ft (30 m). Their tongues alone can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts as much as a car, yet they survive by eating a diet rich in tiny plankton. 2. Colossal Squid The size of the colossal squid is often exaggerated, with viral posts on the internet saying they can reach 60 ft (18 m) or even 90 ft (27 m) in length! However, the largest squid documented was 45 ft (14 m) long. They have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, reaching 10 in (25 cm) in diameter! 3. African Elephant The largest living land animal is the African Elephant which can weigh up to 6,350 kg (7 tons). They typically grow to 35 ft (10.6 m) from trunk to tail and have a shoulder height of 13 ft (4.2 m). There are at least two species, the savanna elephant and the forest elephant, and they currently cited as venerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. 4. Giraffe At a height of 19 ft (5.8 m), the Giraffe is the tallest living animal on Earth.Tthe neck alone is 6 ft (1.8 m) tall. At home in grasslands of East Africa, they feed mostly on vegetation high off the ground, using their long prehensile tongues to pull young shoots and leaves from the trees. Babies are born after a 15 month gestation period and are already 2 m tall! 5. Brown Bear The position of largest living land carnivore is between Brown Bears and Polar Bears. Weighing a whopping 907 kg (1 ton) and reaching up to 10 ft (3 m) tall when standing on their hind legs, they’ve definitely earned their spot as the biggest. Brown Bears found in the forests and mountains of North America, Europe and Asia . Polar Bears are in the north Arctic . most of their time between the sea and ice and feed on seals.

Weighing up to 24 US tons (22 tonnes), they are an impressive sight, but despite their size, they feed mostly on tiny plankton. Present in tropical seas around the world, whale sharks are considered vulnerable and are hunted in some areas. 7. Saltwater Crocodile The largest living reptile is the Saltwater Crocodile, do you growing to an average length of 17 ft (5.2 m), although they can reach 21 ft (6.3m) in length and weigh up to ~1,000 lb (453 kg). They are distributed widely in brackish and salt waters in parts of India, Asia and Australia and feed on all animals they can catch. .8. Ostrich The Ostrich is the largest living bird, with a height of 9 ft (2.7 m) and weight of 344 lbs (156 kg), and at 1.9 in (5 cm) in size, their eyes are the largest of all birds. They don’t have teeth and can survive without water for days . 9. Chinese Salamander The Chinese Giant Salamander is the largest living amphibian, weighing around 66 lb (30 kg) though they can reach 132 lbs (60 kg), and growing to a length of 6 ft (1.8 m) long. They are endangered and rare in the wild. 10. Goliath Beetle Hiding in the undergrowth of African tropical forests, Goliath Beetles take the top spot as the heaviest insect in the world! He helped her and in return she agreed to grant a wish.Midas wished that everything he touched would turn into gold. His wish was granted.On his way home, he touched rocks and plants and they turned into gold.As he reached home, in excitement he hugged his daughter, who turned into gold.Midas was devastated and he had learnt his lesson. Upon learning his lesson, Midas asked the angel to take his wish away. Moral of the story Greed is not good for you. Be content and satisfied to lead a happy and fulfilling life. This is an extremely popular story about a hare and a tortoise. The hare is an animal that is known to move quickly, while a tortoise is one to move slowly. One day, the hare challenged the tortoise to a race simply to prove that he was the best. The tortoise agreed.Once the race began the hare was easily able to get a head start. Upon realizing that the tortoise is far behind. The overconfident hare decided to take a nap.Meanwhile the tortoise, who was extremely determined and dedicated to the race was slowly nearing the finish line.The tortoise won the race while the hare napped. Most importantly he did it with humility and without arrogance. Moral of the story When you work hard and persevere, you can achieve your goals. Slow and steady wins the race.
