THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
To To salute our 125th Anniversary, the Chamber (which has a gala event every 5 years) will celebrate during Black History Month 2023 on Saturday,
February 25th, marking its 125 Years of continued service to Harlem and the "Harlems of the World."
The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1896 as The Harlem Board of Trade is one of the longest continuously active Chambers of
Commerce in the nation. Over the past 50 years, the mission of our Chamber has been to continually improve the quality of life for all of our members,
associates and residents, as well as to attract and develop quality business and professional services in the Greater Harlem community.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic shutdown of the past two years, we were not able to celebrate our Anniversary during the actual 125th year, in
2021. With that in mind, we are extremely pleased and look forward to celebrating this historic anniversary with this very special gala event. We certainly
hope that you will join with us as a Presenting Sponsor, Sponsor, Co-Sponsor and Partner or attendee.
THE CHAMBER WAS INCORPORATED IN 1896 It is our desire to share this magical evening of history with you and your guests as we open the door to more decades of community, economic, educational
and civic development. As we move forward, the Chamber’s focus will be on commercial development, jobs and career advancement, affordable housing
development, strengthening health opportunities, technology expansion, as well as our ongoing commitment to the continued growth of small businesses,
arts & culture, and expanding the economic benefits of the tourism industries in the upper Manhattan area and beyond. The motto of The Chamber, which
fits our broad mission statement and our goals and objectives, is that “THE BUSINESS OF BUSINESS IS PEOPLE.”
The Board of Directors of The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce has determined that our key focus from 2023 to 2025 will be to concentrate, in
partnership with The City College of New York, Columbia University, Medgar Evers College, NYC & Company, Jacob Javits Center, NY City Mayor Eric Adams
and NY State Governor Kathy Hochul, on the critical issue of “CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS DISPROPORTIONATE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON COMMUNITIES
AND NATIONS OF COLOR.” We hope that you will join with us on this dramatically important initiative.
To accomplish the above, we very much look forward to building on existing relationships, as well as expanding on new partnerships - with your help.
Respectfully, COVER PAGE CAPTIONS
