Gair Gan y Pennaeth / A Word From the Headteacher

Mae’n bleser medru rhannu holl lwyddiannau’r flwyddyn gyda chwi oll. Bu’n gyfnod prysur ac arbennig i’r Ysgol a’r
disgyblion. Diolch i bawb am eu hymdrechion a’i hymroddiad a diolch hefyd i chi fel rhieni am eich cefnogaeth. Mae’n
destun balchder eich bod wedi ymddiried ynom i feithrin a chyfoethogi datblygiad addysgol a chymdeithasol eich
plentyn.

Anrhydedd arbennig a ddaeth i’r Ysgol oedd derbyn gwahoddiad rhanbarth ERW i fod yn Ysgol Arloesol ar gyfer Dysgu
Proffesiynol. Fel rhan o’r prosiect mae’r ysgol yn darparu hyfforddiant cychwynnol ar gyfer myfyrwyr ac athrawon yn ei
blwyddyn gyntaf o ddysgu. Mae Llywodraeth Cymru hefyd wedi ein dewis fel Ysgol Arloesol Cwricwlwm Dyfodol
Llwyddiannus.

Mae Ysgol y Preseli yn gwneud gwaith ardderchog wrth baratoi y disgyblion ar gyfer yr Oes Ddigidol. Fel rhan o’r gwaith
hyn, mae’r ysgol wedi ennill Gwobr E-ddiogelwch 360, yr ysgol uwchradd gyntaf yng Nghymru i dderbyn y wobr.
Llongyfarchiadau i Mrs Serena Davies a’r Llysgenhadon Digidol ar eu gwaith caled.

Mae hyn oll yn arwydd o’r enw da sydd gan athrawon yr Ysgol a’r safonau rydym yn eu cyrraedd. Ni fyddai’r sefydliadau
rhanbarthol a chenedlaethol yma yn rhoi eu ffydd ynom oni bai eu bod yn hyderus ein bod yn cynnig gwasanaeth o’r
radd flaenaf. Diolch i bawb am eu gwaith.

Un o uchafbwyntiau’r flwyddyn heb os oedd buddugoliaeth y tîm Rygbi Dan 16 yn cael ei coroni’n bencampwyr Cymru
yn dilyn ei buddugoliaeth o 31-5 yn erbyn Ysgol Ystalyfera ym Mharc y Scarlets. Llongyfarchiadau gwresog i’r garfan o
dan arweiniad y capten Joey Mathias ac hefyd i’r hyfforddwyr Mr Gethin Vobe a Mr Marc Lloyd ar eu llwyddiant. Diolch
yn fawr iawn i’r disgyblion, rhieni, staff a’r holl gefnogwyr o bob cwr o Sir Benfro a deithiodd i Lanelli i weld hanes yn cael
ei greu.

Hoffwn fanteisio ar y cyfle hwn i ddiolch yn fawr iawn i bawb am eich cydweithrediad a chefnogaeth diflino yn ystod y
flwyddyn. Gwyliau hapus i bawb ohonoch a mwynhewch y copi hwn o’r Garreg Las.

It is a pleasure to be able to share some of this year’s successes with you. It has been an exceptionally busy period for
both teachers and pupils. Thank-you to everyone at the school for their efforts and dedication and I would like to thank
you as parents for your continued support. We feel it a privilidge that you have placed your trust in us to nurture and
enrich your child’s educational and social development at Ysgol y Preseli.

The school has recently been selected by the ERW consortium as a Pioneer School for Professional Learning as a centre of
excellence for training and support. As part of this project our teachers provide professional development for students
and teachers in their first year of teaching.

Ysgol y Preseli is also at the forefront in preparing pupils for the challenges of the Digital Age. As part of this work the
school has attained the E360 Safe National Award, the first secondary school in Wales to achieve this status.
Congratulations to Mrs Serena Davies and the Digital Ambassadors on their work.

This is indicative of the School’s excellent reputation regionally and nationally and of the high the standards achieved at
Ysgol y Preseli. Estyn, ERW and Welsh Government would not be putting their faith in us unless they were confident that
we are offering a first class service. Many thanks to everyone for their hard work.

One of the highlights of the year was seeing the Under 16’s School Rugby Team being crowned Welsh Champions at
Parc y Scarlets following their 31-5 win against Ysgol Ystalyfera. Congratulations to the squad of players led by
Joey Mathias and to the coaches Mr Gethin Vobe and Mr Marc Lloyd on their success. Thank you to all the pupils,
parents, staff and supporters from all over Pembrokeshire who travelled to Llanelli to see history being created.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and co-operation throughout the year and I hope
you enjoy reading Y Garreg Las. I wish you all a happy and restful summer break.

Yn ystod y tymor diwethaf fe roddwyd y cyfle i rai o ferched
Blynyddoedd 8 a 9 i fynychu sesiynau STEM.

Purfa olew Valero oedd cyrchfan ymweliad Blwyddyn 9;
cafwyd y cyfle i ymweld â’r lleoliad anferth, cyn symud
ymlaen at weithgareddau amrywiol. Yn ogystal â hyn cafwyd
cyfnod gwerthfawr tu hwnt yn trafod gyda myfyrwyr
israddedig. Esboniodd yr israddedigion bod y stereoteip
traddodiadol “dynol” yn anghywir, a bod ystod o swyddi
addas i ferched o fewn y byd peirianneg. Ysbrydolwyd llawer
o’r merched yn dilyn yr ymweliad hwn i ystyried astudio
peirianneg yn y dyfodol.

During the last term an opportunity was given to girls in Years
8 and 9 to attend STEM sessions.

Valero Oil Refinery was the venue for the Year 9 visit. Pupils were able to visit the enormous refinery site, before
participating in various activities. They were also able to discuss the range of roles and jobs available. Additionally
they spent valuable time with some engireering undergraduates. These undergraduates explained that the
stereotypical view that engineering is a male subject is untrue, and there are a wide range of jobs that are ideal for
women within the field of engineering. A number of the girls were inspired to consider engineering as a possible
career pathway.

Labordy cyfrinachol BTG Protherics oedd y
lleoliad ar gyfer ymweliad Blwyddyn 8 yn

gweithgareddau niferus ar y safle, gan agor
llygaid nifer o ferched i’r cyfleoedd sy’n cael
eu cynnig drwy astudio pynciau STEM.
Ymysg y gweithgareddau roedd
cystadleuaeth gwisgo’n ddiogel a sesiynau
trafod er mwyn darganfod mwy am rôl
menywod o fewn y gwyddorau. Roedd
cyffro’r merched yn dilyn y daith yn amlwg
i’w weld.

The secret BTG Protherics laboratory was the
venue for a recent visit for Year 8. The girls had an enormous amount of fun undertaking different activities,
opening their eyes to the vast opportunities offered through studying STEM subjects. The activities included a
dressing safely competition as well as a discussion session of interviews in order to find out more about the role
of women within the sciences. The excitement generated by the trip was obvious to see.

Mae’r ysgol yn hynod o ddiolchgar i EESW am y cyfleoedd yma.
