MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The year 2022 represents the first year since my parents’ deaths that the Foundation that bears their names has been able to contribute to our community in the manner that they envisioned. It has been my honor and privilege to help carry out their wishes of giving so much to our county which had given so much to them. Bill Straker, my father, was fond of saying, “I made my living in Muskingum County and any money I’m able to leave after my death should go back to the county.” Becoming aware of so much good work that goes on in Muskingum County, and then helping to advance that work, has been a joy. I look forward to more years of helping to make positive changes to the county in hopes that it will become a desired place to live, work, and play. Straker Charitable Foundation 804,339 1,300,313 1,272,327 1,594,474 Special Populations Health, Wellness, Recreation Community Vitality Education and Youth Development 0 500,000 1,000,000 1,500,000 2,000,000 We have received many comments on our gifts in the last year. Among my favorites is, “The Straker Foundation has given to so many different aspects of our county”. Touching children, the arts, education, health and well-being, brick and mortar projects, and many other areas is our goal. We truly enjoy being able to help our county grow and thrive. -Susan Holdren All of the 2022 grants are exciting, and all soar high to reach our founders’ goal of rewarding “hard work and diligent effort,” but one, I believe, really goes to the heart of that goal. Our award helped the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservancy expand their garden project at Marshall Greens. This community garden donated over 4,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries and soup kitchens in 2022. ~ Pam Kirst Every day is exciting at the Foundation. In 2022, we were able to do some “Acts of Kindness”. These often affected many people in the community and the feedback was phenomenal. A few of my favorites were Free Swimming at all the county pools on a hot summer day; another was contributing to the Carr Center and honoring all the Volunteers at Eastside Community and Christ Table. Knowing Mr. Straker since 1981, I feel he would be pleased with the work we are doing. ~ Pam Kuntz 11
