Welcome to Southeast Ohio
3 | Welcome Contents Be a Trailblazer 4-5 Wine Trail Map 6-7 The Wineries 8-14 Get Off the Trail 15 Travel Essentials 16-17 Just a quick trip from Columbus, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, yet an entire world away from the big cities lies a 3-county region in Southeast Ohio where we are Wild About Wine. Travel to the vineyards, wineries, and breweries located in the Appalachian foothills of Southeastern Ohio. Two hundred years ago, the rolling hills were covered with a trackless forest, laced with meandering rivers and narrow Indian trails. When peace came to the wilderness, Ebeneezer Zane and General Rufus Putnam led the way for the entrepreneurs who built the roads, canals and railroads that remain as monuments to their energy. The deep unglaciated soils that were heaped up into hills over a shale foundation and carved by watercourses into narrow hollows create very favorable microclimates to ripen grapes. This fruit is then hand crafted into distinctive wines in the traditions of the artist who made the pottery, mosaic tile, glasswork, basketry, furniture and folk arts for which the foothills of Southeastern Ohio continue to be known. We craft wines and brews in with traditions of our region. Relax on our porches, our terraces, and in our gardens. Sip our vintages, enjoy our sunsets, and hear our stories. When traveling through our area, you’ll get swept away by our unique opportunities and experiences that will drift into a day, an overnight or weekend that will leave you wanting to visit us over and over again.
