History of fails, ruining every franchise and series beloved to everyone. The infamous action to remake a series typically a novel or animated show with real actors. Live actions. And its horrible history with anime has disappointed many many fans throughout the centuries as early as 2002. And just a century after that, hope was lit up and at the same time, fire. The announcement of the live action, One piece. As casts were revealed and the trailer released on June 18 2023, people were hyping the live action more and more. Despite the first initial reaction, - Inaki goes on a sea adventure - Taz kicks and cooks and did not leave crumbs HELP NEEDED!

With many many positive reactions from the very first ‘successful’ live action anime, I myself have some things to say as a One Piece fan who has watched a thousand (legit) of the anime episodes. One thing to say as all majority agrees, it was a good live action. It diverted itself from the original plot to make some changes that were better than the original. The actors did a good job on the acting and execution of the characters, the set and plot changes were spectacular…. As a remake of a One Piece piece?.. No. As the live action was a realistic take on the piece of fiction, it took important scenes and ruined the original characters and their concept intentions. From removing the scene of Sanji bowing to Zeff as he departs from the Baratie, to adding uncharacteristic scenes. These little changes remove the depth, the connections and what makes the characters so likeable in the first place. (i wont give example cause thats another paragraph of psychoanalysis on a one piece But... character-)

More importantly, there was a major issue with the writing of the main character, Luffy. By itself, I believe that Inaki Godoy was the perfect actor for Luffy so everything I say will be held against the scriptwriters, not the actors themselves. The End Luffy in the original anime was a free-spirited boy who wanted to sail the high seas and go to the Grandline. His struggles as a captain only came at Water 7, and his self-identity-depressionthingymajigy (??) crisis after the events of Marineford. In the liveaction whoever, Luffy faced these problems as his crewmates lost trust in him and he struggled with the responsibilities of a captain. Particularly in the scene where he lets Zoro fight Mihawk and inevitably he loses. He eventually resolves this problem and goes on his adventure. By its own it's not bad, but as One Piece is a long series, and with the live action planning to do season 2 and possibly more, this development is too fast. It is more realistic but shows less of Luffy’s good character writing of him being a naturally good leader. There was a reason why he struggled as a captain much later and not in the East Blue.
