Here in the UK we are located on the borders
of several weather systems.
This is the reason our weather varies so much.
Our winters tend to be cold and wet and our
summers are warm and wet.
This means our insulation is very important.
However we are using fibreglass which has
been around for a 100 years. So it was time for
a modern alternative.
Polyurethane is a fantastic versatile material
used in many different products from
packaging to car seats. The most amazing
quality is its insulation properties.
The only drawback with Polyurethane Insulation Foam is it has always been
made using oil derived from fossil fuels. But do not panic this is where Matisco
have now come up with a solution rather than fossil fuel oil we have created a
sustainable alternative oil which is cultivated from Rapeseed oil. It grows here
in the UK so it does not need to be imported thereby cutting down even further
on carbon. It is Honey Bee friendly. Most of all it has even better insulation
properties.
Our Polyurethane foam is lightweight so
when spraying into your roof rafters it
does not create any additional stress on
your roof.
It is sponge like so it allows air to flow
through but without draughts.
It allows moisture to pass through it to
allow your roof timbers to release any
moisture that may be trapped in it.
It expands by as much as 132 times its own
mass. This makes it ideal to spray in lofts.
As it expands it fills every nook and cranny
in your loft. All those hard to get to areas
that fibreglass cannot reach.
It will last for many years so we
guarantee it for 25 years
Fibreglass insulation works by
trapping air between its fibres rather
like the way a string vest works.
This slows heat loss down initially.
The problem is where warm air
meets cold air it creates
condensation and then the damp
adds weight and can cause the
fibreglass to collapse on itself. Now
your fibreglass insulation can
become a conductor or heat.
Conduction is the fastest way that
heat can travel.Loft spaces in the UK
are usually insulated with fibreglass
inserted between the floor joists.
The current building regulations
require 270mm depth. Most lofts
only have 50mm to 100mm.
You also cannot put anything on the
fibreglass like floorboards, boxes,
bags or similar as this compresses
the fibreglass and then again the
insulation properties are lost.
"Creating a Warm roof space"
This is where our open cell
polyurethane insulation foam comes
into its own. By spraying it between
your roof rafters you have protected
the whole loft space. You can now
put all your boxes, bags, train sets,
scalextric etc up in your loft safely.
You can even board your loft without
compromising your insulation.
Your home energy rating should
increase which will hopefully add to
the value of your home.
If you already have cavity walls and
double glazing then you will probably
find that the biggest percentage of
heat loss (Your fuel bill) will be
through your loft space.
Our foam will prevent up to 80% of
that heat loss.
