Selected goal
The goal selected for this project is Clean Water and
Sanitation. The project will mainly focus on teaching
children how plastics negatively impact the water bodies
and how they are harmful to us and the marine lives.
Meet Cholu and his mother. Cholu
likes to play water football with
his friends and help his mother.
Meet Bholu, Cholu's best friend.
They do everything together.
Bholu likes eating and swimming
across reefs.
One day, while playing Cholu and Bholu came across
something that they had never seen before.
Bholu said to Cholu, "Are you sure we should be here?
Our mothers asked us not to venture into this area."
To which Cholu replied, "Nothing will happen, Bholu. You
worry a lot. Just look at this delicious food. I have
never seen anything like it."
Bholu was scared, but he was also curious about this
new thing they had come across.
Bholu was still not convinced. He said, " I don't think this
is a good idea, Cholu. If our mothers came to know
about this, they might not let us go out and play ever
again."
Cholu replied, "They won't come to know. Just this once,
pleeease? I promise we will never come here again."
Bholu was in a dilemma and he decided not to touch the
white shiny thing they just found in the ocean.
He was scared and he said, " You go ahead, I don't think
I am going to eat anything. I just want to go home
soon."

Cholu started eating the food in the packet and did
not realise he munched off on the plastic.
Cholu said, "Bholu, I don't feel very well. Was I not
supposed to eat this?"
Bholu looked at him in horror and did not know what
to do.
Cholu replied, "Let us just go home. A nap can fix
everything."
Turns out, the nap could not fix anything.
Cholu's mother was worried as to what happened to
him. All she knew was he went playing with Bholu the
previous day and fell sick as soon as he came home.
She asked him, " Tell me bacha, what happened to
you? Are you alright?"
He just whimpered in pain.
Cholu's mother decided to confront Bholu. She asked
him, " What did you children do that day, that made
Cholu so sick?"
She looked at him in urgency, expecting an answer.
Bholu burst into tears. He said, "Aunty, Cholu and me
went into the area you warned us about. He saw a shiny
thing with some food inside it and ate the cover also by
mistake. I warned him, it was not a good idea, but he
wouldn't listen."
"Buhuhu"
Bholu wouldn't stop crying. He felt bad for not being
able to help his best friend. Cholu's mother gave him a
hug and said, "Cholu will be fine, don't you worry dear."
Cholu's mother took him to a lush underwater forest
which he had never seen before.
She plucked one of the weeds and said, "Here, have this.
You will feel fine after having a little of this for a few
days. "
Cholu nodded and ate a few sea weeds that his mother
offered.
Days passed by and Cholu eventually recovered and he
was healthy again!
One day, Cholu's mother said, "It's time you learn about
something."
"Don't eat anything that doesn't belong to our ocean.
Humans throw away things like plastic, which can be
harmful for us."
Cholu innocently replied, "But if it is harmful, why do they
throw it here?"
Cholu's mother replied in a serious tone, " Honestly, I
don't know. But it is important that we keep ourselves
safe. So from now onwards, listen to your mother and
never go near any plastic in the ocean."
"I hope one day humans realise this and stop throwing
trash in our oceans." She sighed.
The book is based on creating awareness
among children about the SDG- Clean
Water and Sanitation. It is important
that children learn how plastic adversely
affects the marine life and how we
should stop throwing plastic into the
oceans.
Cholu is a bubbly fish who loves playing
with his best friend, Bholu. One day they
encounter a shiny thing in the ocean.
What happens next changes Cholu's life
entirely.
