Peter B. Davidsen Middle School - Tampa, Florida

Master Consulting Engineers, Inc. (MCE) was respon-
sible for the structural engineering of this prototype
school, located in the Westchase area of Tampa, Flor-
ida. This 130,000 square foot middle school complex
is comprised of seven buildings, namely the Admin-
istration Building, three, 2-story classroom buildings,
the food service/multi-purpose building, the Media
Center, and the gymnasium. Also included is an art
studio, music suite and a physical education facility.
Each building is supported by a steel framing system
in the interior and load-bearing concrete tilt-up panels
at the exterior. All of the buildings are interconnected
by a covered walkway supported by masonry beams,
pilasters and/or walls. The building complex features
a curved steel-framed metal canopy at the bus loop.

Mulrennan Middle School - Tampa, Florida

This prototype project, located in Tampa,
Florida consists of a campus of 7 build-
ings and 1,511 student stations; three
2-story buildings and four 1-story build-
ings, including an administrative build-
ing, a gymnasium, a food/multi-purpose
service area, music department and me-
dia building. Outside facilities include a
new bus loop, teacher and visitor parking,
basketball courts and running track. This
school also doubles as a hurricane shel-
ter in accordance with the Miami-Dade
Code for Enhanced Hurricane Protection.

Hillsborough High School - Tampa, Florida

MCE’s renovation responsibility included rein-
forcing the gabled ends with structural steel
framing as to prevent their collapse as well
as repairing two (2) roof areas. Construction
consists of restoration, replacement, reno-
vations, upgrading, installation and electri-
cal renovations. These improvements were
finished in 2003. Services were also provid-
ed for a small addition and to provide hurri-
cane straps to existing wood roof trusses for
the baseball dugout to bring it up to Code.

Freedom High School - Tampa, Florida

This 229,000 square foot project, locat-
ed in downtown Tampa, Florida, con-
sists of a high school that shares its space
with an adjacent middle school and a
municipal downtown park. The design
was created in order to share as many
amenities as possible with the school
and the downtown space available in
order to cut costs for the school board.
Student capacity is for 2,485 students.
