YEARS OF SPORT

// ONCE UPON A TIME

THERE WAS A BICCYCLE…

In 1986, DECATHLON designs its own mountain bikes and is one of the first to develop this market in Europe. In 2006, the Rockrider
340 saga is going full course. The symbol of accessibility to mountain biking, it wins over nearly 500 000 cyclists each year.

Store to Store - The Ride Continues

Attempt Decathlon Baroda - Decathlon Surat

Distance 190kms
Time 12 Hours (Inclusive of short Breaks)
Cyclists Alpesh Patel, Vinit Chandgothia, Umesh Parghi & Keyur Singhal

This was in continuation of Store to Store
ride where previously we have covered
Thane - Nashik (150kms) / Nashik -
Aurangabad (200kms) / Thane - Pune
(167kms)
The next few ones on the list is

I am aware in South some have covered
Mysore Road - Mysore City (127kms),

Applewoods United Wins The “Legends Cup”

The corporate football tournament “Legends Cup” kick
started on 2nd of September 2016 with stalwarts from
various companies in Ahmedabad battling it out on the
football field.
Team Applewoods United, as we call it, that has previously
won three other corporate tournaments consecutively,
added the Legends Cup Trophy to their award shelf.
The tournament was played for 3 days. Decathlon took on
Vodafone scoring 5 goals, defeated Genesis Consultancy
1-0, won against Idea with a score of 4-1 and clean swept
Adani with 5-0 to finally be the proud winners.
The Golden Boot title which is awarded to the player
scoring maximum number of goals was won by Tabish
Chishti for scoring 11 glorious goals in the tournament.
The Golden Glove title was awarded to Urvish Patel for his
exceptional goal keeping.

Onam Vadam Vali (Tug-of-war) At Anubhava

Vadam vali or Tug-of-war is a traditional game played by both men and women during the Onam
festival. This is a team sport in which each team works to show their strength and unity by
pulling their opponents across the center line.
The main idea of organising this sport was to show that there is strength in numbers when we
work together to help each other, while sharing a very traditional Onam celebration with our
team members.

MAKING IT HAPPEN

Moving on – Mohali & Aurangabad

As shared by Steve, since many years now we have been opening many successful stores and accelerating
quickly. Two non-concept stores were opened a while ago in shopping malls and were non-performing. The
decision was taken to refocus on concept stores and tier one locations. We have learnt a number of things about
how to work better in shopping malls in order to guarantee the right identity accessibility and visibility. We have
taken care to work human projects for the team and also to find different ways for the customer to carry on
shopping with us. In the case of Mohali for example the larger Zirakpur store is very close.

A BIG THANK YOU to Neha, Abhishek and their teams for their hard work and spirit and is happy that new projects
and solutions can be found for the teams and users

From Decathlon Mohali

Decathlon Mohali our 4th store in the North Zone and 3rd
store in Punjab opened on 4th June 2014. In these two
years the team had built a personal connection with each
customer, especially those who have been visiting us
since the opening of the store.
Personally for me, these 2 years at Decathlon Mohali have
been the most joyous and enriching. I would like to thank
everyone associated with the project and
wish my amazing
team all the very
best for their
future projects
at DSI. It was a
pleasure working
with all of you.

Messages from team mates

I never thought of this moment! The moment I
will ever say a goodbye to my Mohali Team. A
team..... “We are not a Team because we work
together. We are a team because we respect,

My sincere thanks for all your support and
guidance throughout. Will miss you!

From Decathlon Aurangabad

It has been an amazing journey where we did our best
to spread the benefits of healthy living by making sports
accessible to more and more Aurangabadkars
I am glad that at the end of this short but rich journey, the
team is very strong, understands the sense behind the
decision for closure and I am confident of their future in
the company in a different location with their set of skills
and an amazing never say die attitude.

Messages from team mates

I was very excited when I was offered
Aurangabad project it was 1stone of its kind (1st
project in tire 3 city) especially in India where
sports doesn’t come in the primary consideration.
On hearing the news of closure, the team was
emotional but at the same time Dhiren and
Abhishek gave us confidence.
Now as we move on I am very confident that my team will
carry the warrior spirit in them and will not hold back to
explore new things and take more risks to achieve something
amazing.
Krunal Dawale

Desire and passion to work and contribute in the
sports sector of my country made me choose
Decathlon over other MNC’s. Aurangabad was
my graduation academy of Decathlon. It made
me get closer to my customer, so close that I tell
them what they need well before they realize it
themselves.
I understand the decision to close the Aurangabad store is
wise and strong. Also, I understood the company’s interest in
the future of its employee’s when I got the offer to take up the
role of Department Manager of Quechua in Whitefield.

Today most stores across the country are conducting regular skating events alongside the ongoing coaching
classes. Oxelo caters to all age groups and organizes events accordingly. Most are for children starting at age 5 to

We have noticed that through these events and classes we have a very strong engagement with the community

awareness for Decathlon.
We strongly feel events are key to the success of Oxelo and it helps in building and retaining our customer base and
also increases the trust in the products we sell.

Namaste is a monthly newsletter that connects all Decathlonians
Editors across the country. It is a tool to share and to celebrate; to inform and to
understand; to publish and to promote...
We have grown from 1 store in 2009; to 2 stores in 2011; to 39 stores
till date and we have an ambition of opening 30 stores in 2016 - which
means around 2400 Decathlonians in more than 25 Cities across the
country!
We may not be able to meet each and every collaborator but we can
know of them and their achievements. We may not be able to take part
in every event but we can learn from them. We may not be able to break
every record but we can
challenge them.
So if you have a story to tell, an idea to share, an experience to narrate, a
picture to publicize, a cause to promote, a message to communicate, an
announcement to make, this is your platform !
