Phra Kaew Hall is an ancient temple originally built in the year 1565 by King Chai Setthathirat to enshrine the Emerald Buddha until 1779 when it was lost to the Siamese. Later, it was rebuilt in 1936. Due to this, no monks reside in the temple, unlike other temples in Laos.
