NO MATTER WHAT, KEEP THAT HAND
MOVING!
At first glance, the restaurant at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, here in Karachi looks Adeel Rana
like any other KFC outlet in Pakistan. Customers come in and out, order Shift Manager
their meals at the counters, and are warmly greeted by the service
staff.
However, the sign language alphabet, position on the walls tells you
that this is not a typical KFC outlet. Customers are not greeted by the
normal shouting of orders among the staff. Instead, they communicate
with each other in silence, accompanied by vigorous hand movements.
For many of the 100+ hearing impaired employees at KFC, this is the
first job they have ever had. Their enthusiasm shows as they eagerly
sign a greeting to customers: a raised hand with the thumb, index and
little fingers extended, and the middle and ring fingers clenched,
meaning “I like you” in the sign language, which is used internationally
among the hearing impaired. But even for those who have had other
jobs, the work here is an entirely new experience, for instead of being
hidden behind the scenes, they now work directly with the customers.

Recognizing Exceptional Employees
This June we celebrated our superheroes with Value Recognition Award, The goal of Values Awards was simple:
to celebrate exceptional employees that exhibit the KFC Values in their work and lives. “There are different
successes that we want to recognize and celebrate at KFC,” CEO Raza Pirbhai explains. “Some of those things
are business metrics. We recognize and celebrate someone making good sales. We also celebrate customer-
oriented wins, whether that’s a customer’s success or an outstanding customer relationship. But these core value
awards are about celebrating employees, not for business metrics or customer wins, but for embodying the
values of KFC Pakistan".

THE GIRL IN
GREEEE-EEEEN
Women’s cricket in Pakistan is changing attitudes about the traditional role of
women in society. At the epi-centre of this revolution is our very own team
member in Lahore, Afia Parveen began playing cricket since she was in the 6th
grade after seeing a Pakistan India cricket match live on TV with her father and
brothers.
Afia started playing inter school tournaments and quickly jumped onto playing
regional level cricket with Multan and later on Bahawalpur region. She is an all-
arounder as she aspires to represent Pakistan's Women Cricket Team in future.
'Opportunities for Women Cricket'
Afia thinks it's easy to advance in the ranks of Women's Cricket in Pakistan,
considering the sport is just starting to pick up steam, if the local talent is given
resources to play.
"People are so willing to teach you when you're playing," she said. "The other team Afia Parveen

institutions where girls play cricket but we need to develop a system where
