Site analysis / Area analysis

• The surrounding area to the site has many main
highways and dual carriageways that will prove
to be useful for construction work and once the
site is completed.

• The A45 links to the main high street leading to
Moor Street.

• The A38 and A4540 are both located close to the
site which can be seen on the map above.

• The site is surrounded by bus stops, which link many
areas from around Birmingham to the city centre and
directly around the site, as well as moor street station
being relatively close.

• This give much positive potential for the proposed
retail on site to prosper.

• There is a hotel located across the road, guests staying
might be more encouraged to use the retail across the
road rather than walk further into the city centre.

• There is access to the north and south of the site. The south
entrance is the generous access point for space.

• The north entrance is on Dale End and the south entrance is
located on Albert Street.

• A wall with small railing prevents the North entrance from being
accessible now and will require work of its own to make it an
access point to the site, for construction work commence and if
it is in the final design.

Concept of design

• The basic idea is a simplified
storage box that minimizes the
effort needed to open the box
and gain access to the contents
inside. The box is similar to the
ordinary storage boxes but it has
an extension that overlaps the
front side of the box with a
section where you can close it
without using any form of gum or
tape.
