HIP LET’S READ AND SHARE IN CONJUNCTION WITH

THE WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY 2021

INTRODUCTION

“Let’s Read and Share” is an activity in conjunction with the World Book and Copyright
Day 2021. It is one of the activities of the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) for the year
2021 to boost students’ interest in reading a variety of fictional and non-fictional books in
English. Three competitions will be conducted from 1 March 2021 to 1 April 2021 to
promote the reading culture amongst students. All primary and secondary school
students, vocational college students and trainee teachers from the Teacher Education
Institutes (IPG) are encouraged to participate in the following competitions.

COMPETITIONS

1. BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION (SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS)

Objectives

i. To recognise students’ efforts in reading and reviewing story books.
ii. To encourage students to share the synopsis, the story line and moral values of

a book they have read.
iii. To present their analysis of the significance of the book

How to Apply?

a) Create a video of a book review with a duration of two to five minutes in MP4
file format.

b) Name the video file in this format:
“HIP LRS 2021 – BR (book title), Name of school
example: HIP LRS – BR (The Pearl), SMK Indah, Name of student
Send the video to your English language teacher/HIP Coordinator of your
school.

c) The English language teacher/HIP Coordinator will review the entries and
upload the best videos (maximum 5 videos) onto the link provided in the table.

d) Submit the form by 5.00 p.m. on 2nd of April 2021.
e) Only completed entries will qualify for this competition.

2. ANIMATED STORY TELLING COMPETITION (SECONDARY SCHOOL
STUDENTS)

Objectives

i. To recognise students’ efforts in reading story books.
ii. To encourage students to share the book content in the form of animation.
iii. To provide a platform for students to share their reflection of the book creatively.

How to Apply?

a) Create an animated story telling video of two to five minutes with hand-drawn
animations or stop motion.

b) Name the video file in this format :
“HIP Let’s Read and Share 2021: – AST (book title), Name of school, Group
1”
example: HIP LRS 2021 – AST (The Pearl), SMK Indah, Group 1

c) Send the video to your English language teacher/HIP Coordinator of your school.
d) The English language teacher/HIP Coordinator will review the entries and upload

the best videos (maximum 5 videos) and provide the YouTube video URL in the
competition entry form provided in the table.
e) OR, the English language teacher/HIP Coordinator can submit the video(s) onto
the competition entry form provided in the table.
f) Submit the form by 5.00 p.m. on 2nd of April 2021.
g) Only completed entries will qualify for this competition.

3. ONLINE READER’S THEATRE COMPETITION (SECONDARY SCHOOL
STUDENTS)

Objectives

i. To recognise students’ efforts in combining reading skills and performance.
ii. To encourage students to practise reading aloud with a purpose.
iii. To showcase students’ reading skills and creative interpretation of the English text.

How to Apply?

a) In groups of 5 to 15 students, create a theatre performance video inspired by a
book read, with a duration of two to five minutes in MP4 format.

b) Name the video file in this format:

d) Send the video to your English language teacher/HIP Coordinator of your school.
e) The English language teacher/HIP Coordinator will review the entries and upload

f) OR, submit the video onto the competition entry form provided in the table.
g) Submit the form by 5.00 p.m. on 2nd April 2021.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS

1. Ten finalists and three winners will be selected.
2. The winners will be announced during the online HIP Let’s Read and Share event

scheduled on 23rd April 2021 (Friday).
3. The winners will receive a certificate of recognition.
