Equal Access Equal Opportunity Equal Fun for Everyone
May 1, 2014 – April 30, 2015
Western DuPage Special Recreation Association serves the Park Districts of Bloomingdale,
Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield
Dear Friends,
Recreation feeds the mind, body and soul. Every new experience enriches
the life we lead. New interests and freshly acquired skills can open up new
opportunities. Connecting with our community and budding new friendships hold
promise for establishing lifelong bonds. Recreation not only changes life in the
moment, it has the potential to forever change who we can be in the future.
WDSRA is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and adults with
special needs. Our vision, Equal Fun for Everyone, is at the core of how we support
our participants and families every step along the way.
Over the past year, guided by a clear vision and the steadfast support of partners
like you, our focus and commitment has led us to:
• Initiate new projects that will allow us to better serve our current families
• Connect with families who are new to special recreation
• Renew our efforts of bringing the WDSRA vision to life for everyone we serve
With your support, along with partners who share our vision, we can continue to
bring Equal Access and Equal Opportunity to those who can benefit most from
special recreation. I invite you to see the impact you have had in the last year
throughout the next few pages.
We are grateful for your contribution of time, talent, monetary donations and
general support to further assist our families. I hope that you will continue to show
your support during our Annual Appeal going on right now.
Together we can bring the WDSRA vision of Equal Fun for Everyone to life for
every child and adult with special needs in our communities!

Bringing the WDSRA Vision to Life
What is
Equal Fun for Everyone?
Simply put, it means that every
individual has Equal Access
and Equal Opportunity
to making recreation a part
of their lives. Equal Access
means that quality programming
is available and affordable.
Equal Opportunity means
that individuals have choices
in the way that they want
to recreate.
Equal Fun for Everyone
means that every individual
has Equal Access and
Equal Opportunity to enjoy
life to the fullest through
recreational experiences
regardless of a disability.
“Participating in the
WDSRA programs has
meant our daughter feels
not only accepted, but
embraced and encouraged
to be exactly who she is.
She feels inspired to reach
even higher with the
support the caring staff
provides.”
– Laura Georgelos
WDSRA parent

How Does WDSRA
Bring the Vision to Life?
For our participants and families, special recreation becomes a significant part
of their lives. For families with young children, it can be the means through which
parents seek to give their child typical childhood experiences. As they grow, it can
lead families on a path where they can find acceptance and understanding. As adults,
special recreation often becomes an entire social network for the whole family.
Equal Fun for Everyone is at the core of how we support our participants and
families every step along the way.
Our vision of Equal Fun for Everyone guides us as we continually strive to develop
fresh programming that offers typical experiences for all ages. It guides us as we build
strong personal relationships with our participants and families. Our vision is at the
forefront of how we select the staff that works closely with every one of our participants.
It is the bar by which we measure our contributions to the communities we serve.

The WDSRA Foundation
Through the efforts of the WDSRA Foundation, a monetary and in-kind donation of more than $325,000
was given to the Association in order to offset the ever rising cost of programming and the decrease in tax
revenues that support the Association. These funds allow the Association to keep programs costs as low
as possible thereby making special recreation available to all families. In addition, funding goes to support
much needed scholarships to many of the WDSRA families.
