This finding aids book is prepared to facilitate the retrieving and use of records and archival materials related to the Jins Shamsuddin Various of information can be
obtained from both electronic and non-electronic sources. The list of available materials include records that related to a collection of types of images, newspaper,
television series, commercials, cartographic records and many more.
This finding aids book aims to help researchers to find and obtain the desired material easily. All the materials are listed according to the type of collection that document
simple inventory and description of selected materials. The content of this finding aids is based on the materials available in the National Archives of Malaysia.

INTRODUCTION

An archive refers to a record, usually but not necessarily inactive records (non-current records) of enduring value
that have been selected for permanent preservation. Archives will normally be preserved in an archival repository.
As we visit the National Archives, there are many national archives acquired and preserved by the archival
institution. There are a collection of archives including several historical magazine articles and photographs of
Malaysian legendary multi-talented artists.

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Jins Shamsuddin is a Malaysian actor, art activist, film director and senator. Under the guidance
of Tan Sri P. Ramlee, he has succeeded in becoming a famous actor since the 50s. His name is now engraved as a
legend who still diligently contributes his efforts and energy in the development of the Malay film industry
throughout his life. One of his films was the most expensive film of the 80s era which earned him the title of "One
million dollar man".

Tan Sri Mohamed Zain bin Shamsuddin (5 November 1935 – 1 March 2017), known professionally as Jins Shamsuddin, was a Malaysian movie actor, director and
politician. He is known for his role in Bukit Kepong (1981). Mohamed Zain was born in Taiping, Perak on 5 November 1935. His family as well as friends call Jins. His
father named Shamsuddin b Kassim was from Acheh of noble descent and work as a carpenter. His mother was named Mariam binti.Abdullah, a part-time trader who sold
items such as iron beds, clothes, old items, and so on. Jins Shamsuddin also helps his mother by selling items from house to house. As a result of his efforts he managed to
buy land from the villagers and was able to help his family. At a young age, he had his own studio named Studio Panca Delima which took in conjunction with the name of
his first acting film holding the lead character. Jins with a strange name was never questioned but there may be wisdom behind the name. According to him, the name Jins
Shamsuddin is preferred to be used after becoming a movie star because his father's name is also often associated with his name and career.

Jins loves photography so wherever he goes he carries a camera. During his school days, he had three female friends who he often harassed, and they even hated his
behavior. He also likes to watch movies, and even when he finishes watching, he will imitate the style of the actors he watches. He also did not want to take the bus because
he wanted to maintain his status as an actor. He also lost his memory due to being involved in a road accident, as a child. Zain was first married to actress Rahmah
Rahmat in Singapore in 1961, from which their marriage bore a son named Jefri Jins. Their marriage however was short- lived, eventually divorcing in 1963. Ten years later
in 1973, he married Halijah Abdullah. They had two children together, Putera Hang Jebat and Putera Hang Nadim.

Jins Shamsuddin received his early education at Sekolah Melayu Bendang, Siam. After that, he got a Japanese education. He, like others, lived in
hardship during the Japanese occupation of Malaya. In 1948 he was selected to enter the "Malay Special Class" (MSC) at King Edward School,
Taiping Perak. He had graduated from an eighth grade which at the time was the same as the Cambridge Senior standard. He never stayed in school
because he often changed schools. In Singapore he has worked with a British company in the field of Electronic Engineering. He also began to get
involved in fashion and drama staging.

He also received a formal education in film technology at the London Film School. Prior to that, he had directed two films, "Not one pregnant
mother" and "Behind the Scenes." Despite facing various challenges and trials, he persevered, and as a result, he received a scholarship from the
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). In January 1970, he successfully continued his studies to improve the quality of film making. Jins Shamsuddin was
the first Malay to be involved in filmmaking. For two years abroad, he studied various fields namely, film production, script writing, lighting and
methods of use. . Thanks to his efforts, he earned a First Class Diploma. In addition, he was also invited to witness the launch of the Appolo
spacecraft in the United States. Jins Shamsudin also never skimps on knowledge. This is because, he is also a part -time lecturer at USM, UKM, UM
and UiTM. Finally, He is also the Executive Officer of Academic Filems and Researcher.

Jins Shamsuddin began his career in the 50s under the guidance of another legendary Malaysian artist, Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Jins was hand-picked by the late Tan
Sri P. Ramlee to be the leading man of “Pancha Delima” (1957). The film Pancha Delima is one of his early roles directed by the local icon. Jins also starred
in Sarjan Hassan (1958), and acted in many films, including, Jurang Bahaya (1967), Bayangan Ajal (1968), Megat Terawis (1960), Lela Manja (1960), Darah
Muda (1963), Bukit Kepong, Bukan Salah Ibu Mengandong (1969), Di Belakang Tabir (1970), Menanti Hari Esok (1977), and Tiada Esok Bagimu (1979).
Known as the Malaysian James Bond for his role as charismatic spy or secret agent as Jefri Zain in Gerak Kilat (1966), Jins later venture into an director career,
releasing his award-winning patriotic action film Bukit Kepong in 1981. Jins wrote the screenplay, produced, directed and acted in the movie, which is based on
the historical Bukit Kepong incident. His directorial debut, titled “Bukit Kepong”, was very well- received and won 7 awards at the Malaysia Film Festival
(FFM) in 1982 including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for him.

Even more he has been appointed to the Dewan Negara after strove for 15 years for an artiste was sworn in as a senator on 13 October 2004. It has made history
as the first entertainment celebrity because being a member of the Dewan Negara. The staunch Barisan Nasional supporter was among the pioneers who sat in
the Umno pro-tem committee in Singapore in 1960 and was a founding member of its Coronation Road branch. Afterwards, he continued working and
remained active in the film industry well into his 70s, with a supporting role in 2008 film Akhirat and a guest appearance in the 2010 Filipino romance film
Miss You Like Crazy.

About when he was 75 years old, Jins Shamsuddin was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Local newspapers and entertainment news websites also stated that
renowned artist Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin's memory was weakening to the point where he didn't recognize the friends who came to see him. Alzheimer’s has
destroyed most of his brain cells. Although he still looks strong at the age past twilight, but in fact he is not healthy. Seeing his deteriorating condition, they took
him to see a specialist and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease said his son. According to the doctor who treated him, it develops from a sense of
depression when he is no longer working. “His life changed after just sitting at home and doing nothing. Over time, his memory was severely affected.” said
Prince Hang Jebat. The doctor also said that day by day, Jins Shamsuddin's brain cells would die. In the end, he may never be able to recognize his family
again.

The first of March on 2017, Wednesday, Malaysia was shocked with the sad news that Jins Shamsuddin had passed away. He was 82 years old when he passed
away. He was pronounced dead about 5.45 p.m at Idzham Clinic in Taman Melawati. According to his second son, Putera Hang Nadim, the cause of his father ’s
death was due to asphyxia. Jins Shamsuddin was said to be enjoying food at his house before the incident happened. According to his first son as well, Putera
Hang Jebat, his father initially complained of shortness of breath. It is believed he suffered from shortness of breath as a result of choking on the food he ate. He
was later taken to a nearby clinic by his wife, Puan Sri Halijah Abdullah with the help of neighbour to seek treatment for him. Unfortunately, his health
deteriorated after arriving at the clinic till he exhaled his last breath. His condition worsened when he arrived, and he passed away there.

RECOGNITION

The National Arts Award (NAA) is the highest award in the field of art recognized by His Majesty the Yang Dipertuan Agong of Malaysia. It was first introduced
in 1993. The earliest and most prestigious category of this award was the “National Artist Award”. In 2009, Senator Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin was announced the
recipient of the National Artist Award in recognition of his contribution for almost half a century in the development of the country's art industry. Minister of
Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Datuk Seri Mohd. Shafie Apdal said, as the grand prize winner in the Eighth National Arts Award (NAA), Jins will receive the
award from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in a ceremony. "His contribution in the country's film and art industry is unmatched."
Therefore, he was decided as the most deserving candidate to receive the award, "he said at a press conference announcing the recipients of the Eighth NAA here
today. According to Mohd. Shafie, the art figure will receive a letter of national honor, RM60,000 cash, a trophy, a complete copy of the Malay songket shirt and
free medical facilities from a first class ward at a government hospital. Jeans will also be an artist, creator of guest of honor work and a reference expert in his field
as well as appointed as a ministry representative at national and international seminars or forums.

In 1982, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Jins Shamsuddin has won seven awards in the Third Malaysia Film Festival for his war film, "Bukit Kepong" (1981), a film written,
acted and directed by him. As the film's director, producer and lead actor, Jins Shamsuddin explained that the film was made based on historical facts in
collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Inspector-General of Police, Tun Hanif Omar. He also interviewed communist terrorists who surrendered
after the attack incident at the police station as well as the villagers of Bukit Kepong. Prior to the making of the film, Mohamad Indera's family met him and asked
him not to highlight the evil of the CPM members also in 2005, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Jins Shamsuddin received the Veteran Artist award for the 18th edition of the
Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH) at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands.

Next, in 1990 Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Jins Shamsuddin has received the recognition from Darjah Dato 'Paduka Mahkota Perak (D.P.M.P) which is the Second Level of
the Order of Merit of the Mahkota Perak. The conditions of its admission are the same as the qualifications of the D.P.C.M. Recipients of this degree are limited to
100 members, meaning well-known for those of high standing who to outstanding service to the State of Perak in any field of life. This degree carries the title of
"Dato '". Lastly, in 2007 he also has received the recognition of Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) which is the second rank among the three ranks in
the Darjah Yang Mulia Setia Mahkota Malaysia (DYMSMM). DYMSMM is the fourth degree among the ten degrees of the Royal Malaysian Award.
The Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) Award carries the title of ‘Tan Sri’ and the incumbent’s wife the title of ‘Puan Sri’.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the Online Finding Aids (OFA) users can find the information they need, for example, we find
information about Jins Shamsuddin, when aided by a rather few and easy guidelines and when the path is clearly
included and much in depth the overall design of the Online Finding Aids websites. The simple design of the
websites displays subtle and great visual cues. Then, they also provide reference and online service which is
images, documents, audio and video. Other than that, we can use this websites search page. This allows one to get
which information is most useful and needed by them. As users, we must take advantage of its importance, in fact
the information is very high quality and refined by others that is user's research. There is a lot of space to do
research that features other types of archive searchers based on subject and biography dependent search or obtain
more complete information electronically. Lastly, as we all know, role of archives and Online Finding Aids is
providing access to many collections has been displayed and obtained on the internet to help users to obtain in
information based on their information needed.
