Sustainable hotel aspects
Our progress
Sustainability
We take thoughtful considerations in various
stages of our operations to minimize any
ecological impact. This includes:
Our operating system
Building materials
Purchasing policies
Water management
Energy conservation
and waste recycling - among others.
The building materials
Our rooms and buildings also
incorporate with various up-cycled
materials. We try to minimize buying
new materials, and do our best to reuse
and repurpose old materials for our
hotel. Building materials are made from
wood pallet used from packing
container, iron from steel frames that no
longer have a use function.
80 % of our hotel is not painted, so
there is room for the building to
breathe. Even though there are some
parts that are painted, we use water-
based paint.
Fun Fact
One of our room’s design incorporates various up-cycled materials to
create resilient furniture. Changing yesterday’s unwanted items into a
brand new style that is both eye-catching and functional. There are baking
pan, LPG tube which are converted into lamp pose and ‘tampah’ which is
turned into mirror frames.
Purchasing Policies
We use local materials for our
operations. Apart from our Creative
Farming that produces plants to
consumed in our restaurant, we also
buy fresh produces and other
restaurant’s needs from local market to
support the community
Our amenities are also locally sourced –
including but not limited to – the hotel
slippers and the rice soaps in the guest
bathrooms.
Water Management:
We have water-management system
where we re-filter water from bathroom
usage and reuse it for landscape
irrigation. The water-recycling
process is divided in two method:
pre-treatment aeration that is
intended to remove odors and make
the waste more liquid; and filtration
system where we separate and remove
impurities and make it possible to
irrigate the plants. The rest goes to
local sewer system.
The black water we recycled takes
about 20-30 m3 in average from total
usage. The entire black water can be
recycled, which produced the same
amount that we use for landscape
irrigation. The 4 filtering systems are
placed in different locations. Each one
consist of 4 filtering units with 2m3 size
per unit.
Energy Conservation:
The electrical capacity in each room is set
at 6 Amps, hence only electronic devices
under 400 watts can be used in the guest
rooms. Air Conditioning isn’t available in the
lobby area (including Art Kitchen Restaurant
and Green Art Space) to minimize
greenhouse gas emissions.
Moreover, to reduce the consumption of
energy, we only used LED strip lights and
LED light bulbs to save energy. The
restaurant and Art Space’s lights are also
turned off at the end of their opening hours.
Waste Recycling
Paper waste: Recycled paper is used for
Art Kitchen menu, and for some
notifications in the property area. The office
staffs use scrap paper for internal
documents to make the best use of paper
that has been used as well.
Plastic waste: As we provide the take away
food container in the plastic material, we
encourage the guests to re-use the food
container. At Art Kitchen Restaurant, we
also have no straw policy as well.
Glass bottle waste: We separate materials
that we can re-use. For instance, many of
our vases are using used glass bottles from
the restaurant.
Electronic Waste
We place an electronic waste drop box in
the lobby area that we provide for our
guests and local communities. This effort is
to help sort out electronic waste and reduce
the danger of electronic waste to the
environment. We are collaborating with E-
waste RJ, a community that takes care for
electronic waste in Jakarta. We already
collaborate with community to
accommodate a box for their electronic
waste, we encourage and invite our
surroundings to participate
