Name Essay

I was born on July 26, 1996 at 1:14 p.m. At my birth, my mom, my Dad’s parents, and Mom’s
mother was there. My dad came in an hour after because he working at his new job as a ranch
manager, which is 7 hours away on motorcycle. A few days before I was born, my parents were
thinking up names for me. My mom wanted to name me Murphy, however my dad didn’t allow it. I
stopped her from naming my other two little sisters Murphy. My mom then suggested Katelin, but my
dad didn’t like that name.

My parents didn’t talk to my grandparents until my birth and my grandfather, on my dad’s side,
didn’t like Katelin either. He suggested that they combine my grandmother’s middle name and my
mom’s name to form Kaylyn (Kay + Lyn (short for Lynette)). My dad liked the spelling of Kaylin instead
and my mom suggested the middle name Rae since it is tradition. So they all agreed on my name to be
Kaylin Rae White. My mom and I lived in
Nacogdoches for 6 months so that she could
finish her degree without student teaching, while
my dad worked as a ranch manager in Del Rio.
He would visit us on the weekends. Then we
moved to the ranch for 3 years and then moved
back to Palestine for my mom to finish student
teaching and receive her certification. My mom is
amazing for raising me by herself with no family
around to help. I hope to become a great mother
and teacher like her in the future.
