Tujuan Pembelajaran

Peserta didik mampu:
1.menganalisis topik, argumen, dan rekomendasi penulis dari teks hortatory exposition lisan
dan tulis (elemen: menyimak-membaca).
2.menulis teks hortatory exposition dengan memperhatikan struktur teks, aspek kebahasaan,
dan fungsi sosial teks (elemen menulis).
3.menyampaikan argumen secara lisan melalui sebuah pidato (elemen berbicara).

Asesmen Awal Pembelajaran

Pembelajaran Peserta didik diberikan soal terkait opini, fakta, dan rekomendasi (terlampir).
Non-kognitif:
Peserta didik diberikan kuisioner terkait profil, minat, kebutuhan, dan gaya belajar
(terlampir: diberikan ke peserta didik di awal semester/tahun pelajaran).

Pengelompokan Dari hasil asesmen awal kognitif:
peserta Peserta didik dengan hasil asesmen dibawah 60% diberikan penguatan materi
didikberdasarkan facts and opinion dan making recommendation.

Fact
According to Wikipedia, fact is a statement that is real or true, or can be shown to be real or true
by evidence as a proof.

Examples:
Cats are mammals.
Bandar Lampung is the capital city of Lampung province.

Opinion
An opinion is a statement that express a judgment, viewpoint, belief, or feeling of a person. It is
neither true nor false. It can be true for some, but false for others.

Hortatory Exposition

What is Hortatory Exposition?
Hortatory exposition is a text that contains arguments and recommendation to persuade
the readers to agree or disagree to do what is being argued. It is to make the readers realize
the discussed issue is worth to exist and follow.

What are the structures?
Thesis
It is the writer's opinion related to a topic which is being discussed.

Arguments
This part contains the principle opinions that support the topic. It is displayed with facts or
examples to strengthen the arguments so the readers get to be more sure about the issue.

Recommendation
At the end of the text, the writer is to suggest or advice the readers in relation to the issue.

Thesis I personally think that reading is a very important activity in our life. Why

do I say so?

Argument 1 Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of knowledge about many things in

the world such as Science, technology, sports, arts, culture, etc. written in

either books, magazine, newspaper, etc.

Argument 2 Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and information about

something happening in any part of the world which can we see directly.

Argument 3 Another reason, reading can give us pleasure too. When we are tired, we

read books, novels, comics, newspaper or magazines on the

entertainment column such as comedy, short story, quiz, etc. to make us

relaxed.

Argument 4 Last, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By reading a

book about Irian Jaya we may feel we’re really sitting in the jungles not at
home in our rooms.

Recommendation From the facts above, it’s obvious that everyone needs to read to get

knowledge, information, and also entertainment. Or in summary, we can
say reading is truly important in our life.

Diminishing Social Media Activity



Social media become a second life for modern people. According to a research in 2019,
Indonesian people spend around 195 minutes per day on social networks such as Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, and many others. This average is far higher than China that spends 139
minutes. Modern people should diminish their social media activity for some reasons.

First, spending a lot of time in social networks can reduce work productivity. Social networks
provide abundant excitement and entertainment that make users abandon their real life duties.

Another reason to reduce social media time is health. Smartphone emits radiofrequency
radiation which can cause a number of health problems such as headache and nausea.
Besides, it emits blue light that can disturb sleep cycle especially when it is used late at night.

The last but not least, spending too much time on social media makes modern people less
sociable. Everybody is busy with their smartphone, so they have less time to talk to each other.

Those are three main reasons why modern people should diminish social media activity. It is
important to suggest that social media should be used wisely for a better life.

Let's Write Through Photovoice

Write a hortatory exposition text in about 200 to 300 words. Here are the steps to follow:

1.Take a photo of a spot or place around your village or school. It has to show the strengths or
weaknesses of the spot or place you shoot.

2.Observe the photo. Explain briefly where it is and what kind of condition has become your
concern about on the photo. Give your general opinion about the condition. Write your
opinion in one first paragraph as the thesis.

3.Keep observing the photo. Then, make two to three main arguments to support your thesis.
Add some facts and examples to strengthen your arguments.

4.In the last paragraph, write one to two recommendations related to your thesis and previous
arguments.

Good Green School Park for Better Learning Process
(Written by Titan Samudra, XI MIPA 2)

SMAN 2 Wonogiri is one of the biggest schools in
Wonogiri. It has many facilities such as computer labs, a
library, an audiovisual room, and a big green park. The SMAN
2 Wonogiri’s park is an example for a good green school park.
It has a minimalist ‘greeny’ design that is really suitable for
students nowadays. The park also has some facilities, for
example, electric sockets, Wi-Fi connections, green trees,
flowers, and benches. This kind of school park could bring a
good effect for the students’ learning process. Here are the
reasons why I say so.

According to a research, the green color on trees can make our body feels fresh and it
could make our mind becomes calm and relax. This color could help students get healed from
feeling stressed out because of studying for 8 hours non-stop in the classroom. The expert also
stated that green color can increase student’s reading ability.

Students are also interested to study at the school park. It makes them more comfortable.
Moreover, with the wi-fi connection provided at the park. Nowadays, wi-fi connection becomes
one of students’ priorities because students could find references and it will be easier to find
those learning materials.

Example 2

Why Should We Keep Our Toilet Clean?
(Written by Ekky Elfira , XI MIPA 3)

There are some toilets in SMAN 2 Wonogiri. The toilets in SMAN 2 Wonogiri are not clean
enough. Not only there is no hand soap in every toilet, but it also has a dirty wall and floor. The
toilet is also often running out of water. The tub looks dirty because it is rarely cleaned. In my
opinion, that condition will decrease health and comfort. I have some reasons why I say like that.

First, we need hand soap to wash hands so our hands will be free from germs. As we know,
germs can cause many diseases such as diarrhea and typhus. Washing hands without hand
soap is not clean enough. So, when hand soap is not available in every toilet, it will decrease our
health, off course.

Second, the dirty wall and the floor can make us discomfort. There are so many graffities with
rude words on the wall. The dirty floor is so slippery that may make the toilet users feel
uncomfortable. The dirty toilets also make the students feel disgusted. It absolutely decreases
the comfort.

Third, the tubs which are rarely drained will cause the water unclean. It can increases the
appearance of mosquito larvae. If it is left unchecked, it can cause dengue fever. The dirty water
can also cause some skin diseases. So, rarely draining the tub brings bad effect to our health.

To handle the problem, all the school community have to commit in keeping the toilets clean.
The students should not scribble the wall. After using the toilet, we should flush it properly. The
school should also add more janitors to clean the toilets regularly.

trash everywhere including rivers, parks, and others. In addition, the collected trash can cause
some serious diseases for humans, animals, and plants.
Therefore, it’s obvious that it is needed to manage the trash all over the world.
