It’s okay
Every year my church goes to Estes Park, Colorado to hike. When I was young, I broke
my ankle there. But a kind man, Mr. Aday, took my arm and said it would be okay. Five years
later I went on the hardest hike I’d ever done. But about halfway into the hike, something terrible
happened. As we climbed the steps, Mr. Aday fell. I remember him on the dirt, clutching his
knee. I didn’t know what to do. There was no reception to call for help. Only 9 more miles of
climbing. But I took his arm and told him it would be okay.
Hot kindness
We were driving to church one Sunday morning. It was cold and raining, and I shivered
in the car. It was quiet, and no one spoke. We just stared out the window, watching the scene
go by. But then I looked over and say a little girl, about 6, carrying out a cup of hot chocolate.
She smiled and handed it to the crosswalk man. The man knelt down to the girl, whispered
something in her ear, and then girl smiled more. She walked away, and everytime I see a
crosswalk man, I give him a hot chocolate, remembering that little girl.
