Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades is about to celebrate its 62nd founding anniversary, and I am delighted to share the goals and vision this year 2022. With the vision of our institution, "JZGMSAT is a premier polytechnic institution in the region", one of our goals is to be recognized as a polytechnic institution. To achieve that, we should focus on staff development— our trainers should take the higher levels of National Certificate. I am encouraging our trainers to enroll in a Graduate School Program since our institution is now partnered with Laguna State Polytechnic University-San Pablo Campus so that we can achieve 50% of our faculty with a Masteral degree. Further, the newest building donated by Congresswoman Marlyn "Len" Alonte-Naguiat will significantly contribute to our diploma program to attain our goal of producing globally competent technologists. Because learners here at JZGMSAT are not just workers, they are technologists. We will always be thankful for this donation. I am planning to assign the second floor of the building to Hospitality Management and Services students for their Barista training. And the company of Panasonic has also placed room for those who are preparing to go to Panasonic. Moreover, the relationship of JZGMSAT to the companies of Nexperia, Isuzu, Panasonic, and other partner companies is exquisite. On the 1st day of June, we will be sending twentyfive students to Panasonic, and we have already signed papers with Nexperia. The Isuzu, on the other hand, requires seventy students. With the help of these industries, students will develop their skills aligned with what is necessary for the workplace. If you are a learner or graduate of JZGMSAT, you should be proud because you are just strengthened with knowledge and skills, you also have holistic development— a mind which is focused on knowledge, hand on skills, and a heart for their attitude.

May 9, 2022 - Monday, the day when I and 67.5 million Filipinos aged 18 and over are eligible to cast their votes, along with about a million Filipinos who have registered overseas. The time starts to open the polling stations in different stations is 6 AM and closed at 7 PM. Once the polls close, counting gets immediately underway, and the candidate with the most votes wins. Conducting an election is not as easy as others see; it requires tons of patience and effort to perform the duties assigned. Vote-counting machine (VCM) is a machine that processes the records of counting votes in an election. Its mechanism defines whether the system tallies votes at each voting location or centrally. But how the elections will affect if some of the VCMs malfunction? Based on Inquirer, there are about 2000 malfunctioned vote-counting machines across the country. The Commission of Election (COMELEC) was alarmed because of this. It will evidently affect the process of the votes. It can cause downtime to the voters. Some are unsure how well it will function and are concerned that the voting J A N - J U N 2 0 2 2 V O L U M E 1 O F 2 GUARDIANS Illustrated by LIMUEL PECAÑA EDITORIAL machines will not accurately register the votes, either because they are defective or because they have been rigged. A succession of machine malfunctions has added to the uncertainty. For instance, the PCOS contains an ultraviolet scanner that can read a particular code inscribed in ultraviolet ink on authentic ballots, preventing the use of bogus ballots. However, before the election day, during pilot testing, the UV scanner rejected far too many genuine ballots, thus that capability had to be removed. The case is most likely related to the mark's printing rather than the machine itself, and mishaps like these are to be expected with new technology. P A G E 4 of the polls O P I N I O N W W W . Sean Allen Liwanag, who was influenced by the post of his friend on social media, is now a trainee of JZGMSAT enrolled under Automotive Technology. “Nakita ko lang sa post ng kaibigan ko, tapos nagustuhan ko na din naman kasi mabibigyan nila ako ng skills tsaka experience na magagamit ko sa pagta-trabaho, at kung sakali makapagtayo ng negosyo”, Sean stated as he is currently happy with the scholarship program given by TESDA. Overwhelmed by the scholarship and training benefits, Jaime Esguerra of Hospitality Management & Services said, “TESDA offers scholarships from different courses and qualifications. I am grateful because I am one of the scholars of the Jacobo”, she stated. A learner from the Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Jecille Chan, is planning to apply to the military soon. She believes that the learnings she will acquire in her training will be a great improvement for her future endeavors. Based on the report, typhoon Odette was the strongest typhoon to hit the country that year, buttered vast portions of Visayas, Mindanao, and Luzon affecting almost 2 million people. The majority of houses have no roofs anymore, and people need help. According to Jerry Alili, Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Official Office, the initial report estimated that the typhoon damaged around 70% to 80% of infrastructure, both public and private property in Northern Palawan. With the aim of our agency, #TESDAAbotLahat, Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades (JZGMSAT) sent two trainers who volunteered to conduct training in Electrical and Carpentry in the affected areas in Palawan. As Mr. Alvin Saulon (Assistant Professor II) and Mr. Erwin Laberinto (Vocational Instruction Supervisor) arrived at Barangay Magara, City of Roxas, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, they witnessed the tragedy brought by typhoon Odette. There was no source of electricity, so the purpose of their visit changed. Together with the other trainers, they built houses for the affected children and families. Each family was granted a house with a measurement of 10ft by 10ft with a total of 11 families. During those three weeks of their stay, they experienced different challenges at the site; hot weather and dusty place caused by the previous storm, "the place was expectedly so devastated", said Mr. Saulon. As the person, who is in charge to take care of the farm, she suggested an organized pen that will give more space and ideas for the new organic way of farming. Also, she suggested that the farm should also have a nursery for the new seeds which gives more mortality to the success rate of the seeds. The farm also needs an irrigation system that will let the in-charge personnel lessen the workload. And as times pass by, Jacobo will be having a structure inside the farm, but as of now, this particular structure is still in the planning progress.

Butterscotch sweets became popular in England and became popular in the United States in the early 20th century. In this study, the researcher concentrated on determining the highly acceptable among four (4) varieties of veggie butterscotch bar cookies in terms of color, aroma, volume, flavor, and general acceptability. The immediate objectives of the study and the conceptual model, consisting of the input, throughput, and output defined the scope and delimitation of the study. By TEOFILA DELOS REYES This research sought to create a recipe for the butterscotch made of vegetables and produce various amounts, test its color, aroma, volume, flavor, and general acceptability, and evaluate veggie butterscotch as a variant bar cookie. Veggie butterscotch made of moringa, squash, and sweet potato was generally acceptable as a variant bar cookie. Moreover, the respondents rated as Slightly Liked the Veggie Butterscotch (C) with 125g of squash, 100g of sweet potato, and 3g of dried moringa since it has better color, aroma, volume, flavor, and general acceptability.
