HELD ON 09-02-2018.

Meeting of core organizing committee Islamabad for celebration
of 70th anniversary diplomatic relations between Pakistan and
Russia held on 9th February, 2018 at the o ce of Association of
Pakistani Graduates from Russia & CIS (APGR & CIS). Which was
chaired by Mr. Sergey Baranov, First Secretary Embassy of the
Russian Federation to the Pakistan, Islamabad. Co-chaired by
Engr. Iftikhar Ali, General Secretary, Association of Pakistani Grad-
uates from Russia & CIS and Saleem Malik.
The overall organizing committee for celebration of series of
activities and functions dedicated to the event comprising of
around 100 dignitaries including parliamentarians, Politicians,
o ce bearer and members of APGR & CIS, representatives of
business community, civil society, intellectuals, and academics.
Dr. Shahid Hassan, Convener of the organizing Committee and
President (APGR & CIS), briefed the chair and participants of the
meeting on activities dedicated to the event so far held and
planned. He putted light on the Poetry session (Mushaira), Press
Conference and round table held in Lahore last month. He shared
the proposed dates of upcoming activities scheduled in Multan,
Faisalabad Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad.
Dr. Zahid Hassan, Chairman, Association of Pakistani Graduates
from Russia and CIS briefed the Chair and participants on the
activities planned to be celebrated in Karachi in consultation with
the Consulate General of Russian Federation in Karachi. In ques-
tion answer session, the participants actively participated and
putted some good suggestions which will be further discussed
and taken up with relevant quarters to get it nalized wherever
possible.
Later on, Engr. Iftikhar Ali, thanked Sergey Baranov and all partici-
pants for their active participation. He appreciated the e orts
and assistance in documentation of the activities provided by
Miss Samra Naz, an active member of the organizing committee.

Asma Jahangir, Fearless Pakistani Rights Activist, Died

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Asma Jahangir, a leading Pakistani rights
activist, fearless critic of the military’s interference into politics and a
staunch defender of the rule of law, died on Sunday in Lahore.
Ms. Jahangir, a human rights lawyer, had a reputation of speaking
truth to power and defending the weak and the marginalized, women
and minorities against injustice. She gained international acclaim for
being the voice of conscience in a country where liberal, secular voices
have been continuously under threat.
She was the founding chairwoman of the Human Rights Commission
of Pakistan, an independent group, and was a trustee of the Interna-
tional Crisis Group. She won several local and international awards and
served as the United Nations rapporteur on human rights and extraju-
dicial killings.
