REFERENCE MANUAL FOR STUDENTS

TANGAZA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

1.0 Section One

What is Moodle

Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) utilized by Tangaza University College to support
lecturers and students in creating effective online learning communities. Moodle, a software package
designed using sound pedagogical principles, has a range of functionality which can combine and
enhance the traditional learning environment in an online setting. This functionality includes content
management, email, discussion, calendar, assignment and chat room to enhance teacher to student
communication. It is intended to complement and enhance face-to-face lecturing in Tangaza University
College

Who can access Moodle in Tangaza College?

All registered Tangaza University College staff and students, using their assigned username and
password, can access Moodle both on and off-campus once they have access to the Internet.

How do you access Moodle in Tangaza College?

To access Moodle, go to tangaza.ac.ke from any web browser. (Web browsers

include Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari)

Alternatively, you can access Moodle via Tangaza University College website

(http://www.tangaza.ac.ke or tangaza.ac.ke ) in two different ways:

First, open your web browser and type http://www.tangaza.ac.ke to launch the website. On the home
page scroll down to see ACADEMIC RESOURCES.CLICK on moodle

Section Two

Logging On

Once the user clicks on Moodle, click on log in for one to put his or her password

Once you are on the Moodle homepage as illustrated below, enter your username and
password.

In case you do not remember your username or password, contact the ICT helpdesk or your
respective institute Once logged in click on site home for you to see the list of all the
institutes in Tangaza University College as shown

How to locate courses

Go to ‘search course’ at the bottom of the page, type the course title/ name, or course
code to locate the desired course. Click on the desired course from the searched courses in
order to enroll yourself into the course.

How to enroll yourself into courses
Kindly note you might not see all the courses which you are enrolled in as a student since
most of the courses require self/ personal enrolment using a special enrolment key as
would be provided by the lecturer or Institute administrator. (A course enrollment key is a
code each student enters when they attempt to enroll in a course.) Having located desired
courses as elaborated above, click on the course and in the resulting screen type the
enrolment key provided and click on enroll to enroll yourself into the course. Example
@LSC201) NO SPACE AND LSC IS CAPITAL LETTER: PLEASE REMEMBER Different institutes
have their own enrolment key please find out from the administrator which key they are
using

once you have put the enrolment key click on enroll me
NOTE:
In case the lecture has put some notes then the user should be able to see this

Showing there are notes on Topic one and 2 ,if there are no notes then the user should be able to see

IF THERE ARE NO NOTES THEN THE USER SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THIS

Please note after these processes once the user logs in again to the moodle he or she does not need to go
through the whole process to get this particular unit because the unit is already there on my course.

Assignment

How to view an assignment

ASSIGNMENTS
Assignments will always be labeled with a hand icon that seems to be holding or handing over a
sheet of paper as shown in the figure below the follow the instructions carefully as directed in the
assignment.
Go to site home under my courses click on the particular unit under which the assignment fall

Click on the week on which the assignment has been posted

This is what you view

After finishing your assignment on a word document click on the ADD SUBMISSION BOX

On the file submission click on ADD A FILE
once you click on add a file
click on upload a file

Click on browse a file to locate your assignment

Click on the attachment button to browser where you have saved your assignment.
Click on the assignment then click on upload this file

Then click on save changes. Please remember to click on save changes otherwise your assignment will
not be submitted
