Letter from Jim Brown, CEO
I would like to thank each of you for your patience with our recent electronic medical record
conversion. Hospital-based electronic medical record conversions are massive undertakings that
require extensive planning, training, and resources. Anxiety and frustration are to be expected.
For many of you, your daily workflows have changed and the time spent on necessary
documentation has increased. Our hope is that this new system becomes easier with repetition
and familiarity. Through this change, you have been positive and flexible. I appreciate your
attitudes and openness as we have worked through this difficult task.
I would like to offer a special thanks to Karen Martin, Jill Ross, Tiffany Galendez, Kimberly Bailey,
Liana Larson, Ken Wood, Jesse Salinas, Super Users and our Patient Keeper, Meditech and IT
Teams for their work in planning, training, facilitating and trouble-shooting this conversion.
This has been a complex, difficult, and laborious process and our work is not yet done. Thank you
again for helping us make the best of this necessary process.

ADA TIP OF THE MONTH
Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service
animals under the ADA?
A: No. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being 39
with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or
task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. However, some State
or local governments have laws that allow people to take emotional support
animals into public places. (FLA 6590) You may check with your State and local
government agencies to find out about these laws.

NURSING CORNER SAFETY ROUNDING previously known as HOURLY ROUNDING
What is Safety Rounding?
Safety Rounding is a reliable
nursing care delivery system where
the nursing team visits patients on
a consistent basis, demonstrating
particular behaviors, including
specific clinical tasks. The goal is to

to describe the rounding behaviors
in a way that will assist staff in
remembering the behaviors and
improving execution.

STELLAR SHOUT-OUTS TO THESE EMPLOYEES!
Jasmine, MS2, Cheryl has been a patient at North Cypress before, but most recently was told by
her MD to go to a competitors facility for emergency care. Cheryl felt she never received the care
like she received at HCA North Cypress and made the decision to only utilize our MDs and facility for
all of her care moving forward. Cheryl’s daughter took an Uber from the airport and when she
arrived, she stated that it was like a resort here. “Your facility is beautiful and everyone was smiling
and inviting.” Cheryl then stated the following, “I am telling anyone and everyone who will
listen…Jasmine is the best. She may not remember me from a prior visit, but I remember her. She
deserves all of the praise and reward for her work. She is always smiling and when I broke down it
was like she took on my pain and anger. (IZL 6745) You find good nurses, but not always ones that
will go above and beyond and not treat you like a herd of cows but like a person, a real person.”
Jasmine is #RaisingtheBar.
She perfectly demonstrated what
#CareLikeFamily means!
