Pastor Rob Robertson

St. Stephen’s begins a new Sermon Series, Jesus Says, “I Am…” on
Sunday, August 4. We will examine in Jesus’ own words, who he is
and what he means to each of our lives! In the Gospel of John,
seven times Jesus makes bold and even outrageous “I am”
statements about himself. Jesus statements allude to God’s
revelation from a burning bush to Moses in Exodus 3 “I AM
WHO I AM…Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘I AM has sent
me to you.’” When Jesus declares “I Am”, he declares his divinity
and Lordship but much more. By listening to Jesus and examining his words, we will get to know Jesus
better and learn more about the life-giving nature of his ministry for us and the world. Our series begins
by examining Jesus’ statement, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and
whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35 NRSV). Join us for this new series and invite a
neighbor!

Announcements

Clean Recycling

Our trash/recycling contractor has implemented a strict policy: Any week our recycling dumpster
contains plastic bags, food jars/cans that have not been cleaned out, wood, or other items not allowed
by their label on the dumpster, they charge us $360 because, by policy, they have to send another (non-
recycling) non-scheduled trash truck to pick the load up. That's potentially more than $18,000 per
year! So please, whenever you're disposing of potentially recyclable material, err on the side of caution;
only recycle what's clearly allowed! Thank You! Trustees/Church & Society

Donate New School Supplies

Please join the Outreach Committee in donating new school supplies to help children in need. Pencils,
pens, markers, crayons, scissors, construction paper, notebooks and lined paper (especially wide-ruled)
and any other supplies are needed. We are hoping to collect 2,019 items! They will be distributed
through several of our ministries and partner organizations: Grace Ministries, Browne Education
Center, Homestretch, FACETS, and Wesley Housing. Collection bins will be in the Gathering Place in
July and early August.

Just Movies

Enjoyed our potluck & movie on July 31? Be on the lookout for details of a different faith-in-action
film this month. Brought to you by Church & Society Committee

Calling All Photographers!

The Photography Ministry needs you. We take pictures of St. Stephen’s events, Missions, and members
to help document our good works and also support Communications and other activities. If you like to
take photos and are willing to take photos at some events or times convenient to you, we’d love to have
you join us. There is no required amount of time you need to volunteer. If you’re interested or have
questions, contact Joe Willmore at: [email protected]

From the Endowment Committee

You may have noticed the new cabinets in our Gathering Place. The Permanent Endowment Committee
used the dividends earned this year to provide funds to the First Impressions Team to purchase the
cabinets. If you would like information regarding the Endowment Fund, contact the chairman, Gregg
Snow, 703-489-3780.

When Hosting the Welcome Center

1. Please consider taking the leftovers home. Otherwise there are ziplock bags available for extra goodies. Storage in
ziplock bags will prevent the leftovers from going stale.

2. Leftover perishable items must be taken home or thrown away.
3. Please check the freezer located near the small kitchen for leftovers. Feel free to use any frozen items when hosting.

Cookies and muffins thaw in 10-15 minutes.
4. Remember when cleaing up to put the garbage in the dumpster that is located at the back of the church behind the big

kitchen.
