There are many different styles of Marcelina Spencer Parker Staszkiewicz John Stepnowski
dancing, and Irish-step dance is one of Kaitlyn Stilson Alexander Strasser Andrew Terreault
the more unique. Involving a fast- Samantha Uliana Kienie Valentine
paced, lively jig, Irish-step dance is an Nicholas Thompson
alternative to the more orthodox ballet,
In addition, the dancers wear vibrant
costumes and large, curly wigs, These
costumes are not traditionally Irish, but
they have become a part of modern
Irish-step.

Sarah Grace Johnson danced in
regional Irish dance competitions. Since
she practiced about seven hours a
week, she usually placed and won
medals or awards in the competitions.

"Dancing can sometimes be hard,
but the competitions are really
rewarding when I do well and all my
hard work pays off," said Sarah Grace,

Sarah Grace was busy with school
and cross country among other
activities, but she made time for her
dancing. It was dedication that allowed
Sarah Grace to be so successful in Irish
dancing competitions. Though her sport
sometimes got a bit hard, she kept
going to reach her goal.

Living in the
Doghouse

Sarah Williams sms Andrew Workman Dogs are one of the most popular
Daniel Zukowski Connor Winters pets in Amerioa today, and with good
reason, They make wonderful
companions, which is why 78.2 million
dogs were owned in the U.S. in
2011 -2012, according to a survey from
the American Pet Products Association.

Freshman Earl Bonoan knew this
very well, as he had so many pet dogs
that he could not always rememPer all
their names.

"I love dogs. They're so cute and
cuddly. I love having them around all
the time," said Earl,

He said that his family doesn't
purposely acquire dogs; the dogs just
breed and they never give the
puppies away. Living with so many
animals could sometimes be
challenging due to the odors and
natural rambunctiousness of puppies,
but Earl loves them. His favorite is a
chow chow because it was so playful
and fluffy. Growing up with animals
can teach children important life
lessons and responsibilities, which Earl
will probably use for the rest of his life.

the rotating schedule con leave everyone
Steven Watkins Katie Williams feeling os if they ore doing the some thing
ever/ day. Getting o break from the normal
classroom scene and going on field trips
gives o new way to teach certain subject
matters and ideas,

"Field trips allow students to experience
the connection between what they hove
learned in the classroom to the real world.
This is especially true of on outdoor and
environmental experience," sold Mr. Ekiund.

The arts and the science departments
generally hove the most field trips, but the
English classes sometimes offer things
