Mission Ministry Spotlight - Family Promise

What is Family Promise?
Family Promise is an orginization that is designed to keep families together during homelessness. The goal is
for families to stay with the program for about 90 days. The participating families move from church to church
on a weekly rotation. During the day the families go to a “Day Center” where they get help with finding afford-
able housing, counseling, lunch, & more. This is one of the only programs that is able to keep families together.
The progam works! In 2016 24 families were served by 16 hosting congregations(the churches where they
spend the night) and 77% of those families have now secured sustainable housing!

What is Central’s involvement with Family Promise?
Central acts as a “support church” to Fountain City UMC, where the families are housed for the week. Central provides an evening meal
and overnight hosts one night during this week. We do this 4 times per year. Please take time to read the testimonials of some of
Central’s recent volunteers.

We have 2 more Family promise opprotunities for 2017! Tuesday, August 29 & Wednesday, November 1

We will need approximately 3-4 volunteers for making and serving dinner (5:30-7:00pm) and 2 volunteers for overnight hosts (8:00pm-
7:00am) Please contact Katie Comen at 931-993-0560 or [email protected] if you are interested.
