Dear Parents and Caregivers

Kamusta. It was good to see so many of you attend the conferences on Monday and
Tuesday. I know that the teachers found these very helpful and hope that you did as
well.

Congratulations to last week’s winner of the Principal’s Award for Caring, Angel
Mian of Room Kakapo.

We extend a very warm welcome to two new five year olds. Annabelle
Nicol has made a happy start to school and is excited to join her big sister
Bridie at school. Zoe Knight turned five yesterday. Zoe knows lots about
school because her brother and sister Jakson and Cassidy used to be here.

Many of you will have received a copy of the card games you can play at home to help with
Maths practice. Another great place to look for home activities in the NZ Maths website.
This has a special section for families. Go to http://nzmaths.co.nz/families. It is really
worth looking at.

Tomorrow we welcome back Constable Marty. He will be teaching the Kia Kaha programme to
all classes over three days. Kia Kaha is all about preventing and dealing with bullying. The
phrase ‘Kia Kaha’ means ‘Stay Strong’. We run this very important and effective programme
every second year.

Congratulations to one more talented netballer Tamzin Tomlinson (Year 6) who also played in the Year
6 Southern Zone netball team. Tamzin’s team got 9th in the Southland Primary School tournament.

The 2014 Annual Report (about our school’s finances) arrived recently and is available for anybody
to read. It is on display in the school office alongside the charter.

On September 4th at 1.45pm we are going to hold another Parent Reference Group
meeting. This is an informal chat session where we will get parent thoughts about 3-4
matters of interest. We hold this in the staffroom just before assembly. We’ll send a
notice about this in next week’s newsletter.

Sadly the Silver Ferns fell at the final hurdle on Sunday. At least we still have the
chance to win another big world cup in September!

Have a great week everyone.

Regards

Fiona
