Henry Hudson was o n his first v oyage, he s ailed through a small bay and
stopped to t rade some g oods for s ome c oats m ade out o f f ur. H e t hen
went b ack a nd told the Muscovy company, w hich later led t o m ore and
more people g oing t here. S amuel d e Champlain is t he next e xplorer, h e
was a french man w ho h ad bonds w ith t he n ative a mericans. As the trade
went on those b onds g ot stronger. C hamplain l oved t rade so much t hat he
sent a group of m en out t o go o pen u p new trade p osts.

When p eople would trade with t he native a mericans t hey would go to
trading posts t o do i t, t hey would set u p t rading post n ear water s o t hat

The most c ommon fur that was t raded i n t he f ur trade was Beaver fur o r
(Beaver p elts) . A p elt i s an a nimal's c oat o f fur o r h air. B eaver p elts were
made to make felt h ats. B eaver p elts c an b e made into leather a nd s uede.

French trappers/ missionaries
French t rapper trapped t he animals t hat they w ould k ill and skin f or their
furs. So t hey would then t ake the f ur a d t rade t hem for something else a t
the t rading p osts. M issionaries w here people w ho were s ent out o n a
religious mission to p romote christianity. T he english and the french m ust
have s ent missionaries out t o t he U .S t o c onvert the n ative americans t o
the religion o f C hristianity.
Expansion of new france/ Leading t o new w ar
New F rance e xpanded over t o America right on t he coast, a nd near t he
great lakes. T he F rench and Indian w ar w as caused by a dispute o ver land.
The F rench a nd the British w ere f ighting over where t heir c laimed t erritory
was, so t hey b egan a war. Both t he French and the B ritish had native
americans o n their side h elping t hem. The British won t he w ar b ut still
faced pressing colonie p roblems like t he t reaty of p aris.
