Welcome

Welcome to Galilee!
This month, we enter the season of Lent. Lent is a time when Christians prepare for
Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, and spiritual discipline. The starting
point of Lent, Ash Wednesday (March 6), emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before
God and our mortality.
If we have differences as believers, these commonalities at least unite us. None of us is
perfect. None of us is self-sufficient. Good news, then, that what also unites us is the love
that God has for us. It isn’t a lukewarm love. He loves us so much that he sent his son for
us. For all of us.
That’s the love that we’re asked to share with the world. Love “with all our heart.”
Part of our theology that I connect with deeply is the open table of Holy Communion.
It’s a regular demonstration that the love of God is for all. On the first Sunday of the
month, Galilee’s pastors serve communion to every person who desires it. You don’t need
to be church member, or even a Methodist, to come forward and receive God’s love and
forgiveness.
Everyone is equal and united at the foot of the cross, at the table of Jesus Christ.
In Christ,

Pastor Jason

NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus.
Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now,
and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to ques-
tion, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. Wherever he
went, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is
always inviting us to open our eyes and join in.
No prep needed - each is a stand alone class.

When it comes to anxiety, depression, and stress-related illnesses,
America is the frontrunner. Thankfully, there’s a practical prescription
for dealing with them.
Does the uncertainty and chaos of life keep you up at night?
Is irrational worry your constant companion?
Could you use some calm?
Anxious for Nothing invites readers to delve into Philippians 4:6-7.:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiv-
ing, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Are you ready to become the person God has called you to be? In
A Life Beyond Amazing, bestselling author Dr. David Jeremiah
uncovers God’s strategy for change and challenges you to make
nine important decisions that will transform your heart, your life,
and your world.
This life-changing book explores the nine qualities of character
that carry us forward. Three of these have to do with our relationship with ourselves, three
deal with interactions with other people, and three of them focus on our relationship with
God. Spiritual
principles are true in any situation. But we must make a conscious decision to employ
them in our daily lives.
God has given us wisdom for these days. A Life Beyond Amazing answers the questions
that keep us up at night and shows that the way forward is a reminder of who we are in
Christ and why it matters.

There was something different about the way Jesus communicated
with the lost: He didn’t force answers upon people, He asked
questions. So why don’t we?
Following Christ’s example, author Randy Newman has been using
a questioning style of evangelism for decades. In this provocative
book, he provides practical insights to help Christians engage others in meaningful
spiritual conversations. He challenges us to examine how we think about people,
their questions, and our crucial message.

What is shaking in your world? Possibly your future, your faith, your
family, or finances? It’s a shaky world out there. In Unshakable Hope:
Building Our Lives on the Promises of God, pastor and author Max
Lucado offers encouraging guidance for overcoming sadness and
despair, renewing a sense of purpose, and triumphantly facing the fears of the future.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional opportunities for people to grow in faith.
We strive to prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship with God. Our greatest
tool for growth is the small group, where people come together to study the word and
build understanding, faith, and strong relationships. Our small groups are open to
everyone at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to see if a group is the right
fit for you.

Stephen Ministers are known as the After People.

Stephen Ministers are there:

...after the phone call you hoped you’d never get.
...after the funeral, when everyone has left and the
emotions you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you.
....after the relationship falls apart and the bottom falls out of your life.
...after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.”
...after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says,

“Welcome to your new home.”
...after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away

—and the house suddenly seems empty.
...after the gavel comes down, the handcuffs go on,

and your loved one is led away.
...after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever

dreamed possible.
...after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck.
...after your family and friends have heard your story one too many

times, but you still need to talk it out.
Stephen Ministers are the After People. They are ready to come alongside you—or
your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives—and provide comfort and support
for as long after as needed.

you know of someone who may be in need of a Stephen Minister, contact the church

ALTAR GUILD

Did you know that Galilee has an army? It is a silent army and a busy one. It’s a
volunteer army that we call the Altar Guild. They make our sanctuary a great place
to worship God.
The Altar Guild raises wall banners and paraments on the altar to fit the season and
the scripture. They prepare communion and do the clean up afterwards. They water
plants and keep the pews tidy and stocked with tissues, envelopes, giving cards,
pencils, and the all-important Scribble Sheets for Little Methodists.
The Altar Guild also uses natural beauty to glorify God by arranging for flowers on
Sunday mornings. If you would like to give flowers for a birthday, anniversay, special
memory, graduation, birth of a child, or just to honor God, the Altar Guild can do
that. The cost is $35 for a regular arrangement. Special arrangements may be more.
Sign up on the Connection Card or on the flower calendar
located in the lobby on the column closest to the office.
Leave your phone number and you will be called about the
type/color of flowers you would like.
For more information about the Altar Guild, you can email:
[email protected].

Thank you to all the volunteers (New & existing) who helped prepare 200 sets of gro-
cery bags for furloughed government employees. Each of you stepped up with very
little notice to lend a hand with the Pop-Up Market hosted at Galilee.
And, thank you to the Galilee congregation for continuing to give so generously each
month. If you are interested in volunteering with the LHR Ministry, please contact
Kathi Miller at [email protected], or 703-444-9036.

Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person
an extraordinary purpose.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping
people connect with God, with one another, and with their
life’s purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit me on social media

eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
