Welcome

Imagine taking a test Monday morning, if you haven’t had much to eat since Friday.
When Galilee saw area school children receiving inadequate nutrition over the weekend,
we acted. In 2011, Galilee’s Backpack Buddies started supplying thirty children weekend
meal packs. That ministry has grown to serve 400 children at six local schools.
As ever, we value your support of Backpack Buddies through donations of food. If you’re
wondering what to donate, visit mybackpackbuddies.org.
Yet Galilee sees a wider need, too. Sometimes what kids really need isn’t food, it’s adult
attention. Or it’s both. That’s why we’ve deepened our relationship with Rolling Ridge
Elementary to serve as mentors for second graders. Each week, fourteen volunteers from
Galilee and the Chapel at Lansdowne meet with students during lunch to review lessons
and to demonstrate love and respect for these young people. The children learn that they
have a caring adult in their life who will be there, week in and week out.
You can meet some of the children loved and helped by Galilee. On April 15 at the
11am service, we welcome the children’s choir from Meadowland Elementary, a Backpack
Buddies partner school. We are thrilled that the staff and kids at Meadowland chose to
join us on a Sunday morning. Say hello to them at a special fellowship time at 10am.
Backpack Buddies and the Rolling Ridge Mentors are always open to new volunteers. If
you feel the call to make an impact on the life of a child, contact me—I am blessed to
overlook the Serve Ministries at Galilee. My passion is to find the right place for you to
serve.
Thank you for using your gifts and time to help children. It makes a difference.

Thursday Morning Sisters in Christ Study Group

Led by Nancy Epperson & Peggy Whale
9:30am - Adult Flex

This exciting series brings readers face-to-face with the truth of
God’s precepts, promises, and purposes--in just minutes a day. With
this inductive study of Proverbs readers will discover God’s truth and
wisdom for everyday circumstances. As they learn to observe, interpret,
and apply the text themselves, readers will come to a fresh understanding of God’s
guidance and His interest in their lives.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional opportunities for people to grow in faith.
We strive to prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship with God. Our greatest
tool for growth is the small group, where people come together to study the word and
build understanding, faith, and strong relationships. Our small groups are open to
everyone at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to see if a group is the right
fit for you.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person an
extraordinary purpose.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping people
connect with God, with one another, and with their life’s purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit me
on social media (facebook.com/jason.duley.944) or simply pick up
the phone and call.
[email protected]

REV. MAT THEW SERGENT - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
My call to ministry had to wait as I spent twenty years in law enforce-
ment, rising to Police Captain. I found myself reaching out to victims,
trying to help them make sense out of horrible situations. In essence,
I was being the hands and feet of Christ even in my role as a police
officer. I also saw the results, in many offenders, of living a life outside
the love of God. There were times when I was reaching out to minister
to them as well.
I am grateful now to be working as a pastor at Galilee and the Chapel
at Lansdowne Woods. I believe my greatest usefulness as a minister is
my witness and love for the Good News of the Gospel.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
