from the superintendent

As a K-12 school that is built upon the truth of the God-centered universe as
described in the Bible, we have the unique and sacred opportunity to partner
with churches and families to prepare students to impact their world for Christ.
This God-sized mission is the heartbeat of Seattle Christian. This passion drives
all we do. This vision ensures SCS students – Discover their gifts and purpose,
Grow into God’s call for their lives and bring Godly Influence to a
world of people that desperately need God’s grace and truth.
In this edition of the Scepter, you will see what this
vision means for the life of an SCS Warrior! Young
adults Discovering their gifts and understanding
God’s universe through their SCS experience, students
Growing in leadership as they invite peers to deeper
worship and service, and alumni being Influencers in
their churches, communities and work places.
As I reflect upon the 2018-2019 school year, the Lord brought
to mind the following thoughts and conversations that remind me
of the wonderful work He is is doing at SCS. My prayer is that these stories will
encourage you as well.

Discover – Due to the hard work of many, our comprehensive academic,

arts, athletic, and technology programs help students discover the wide range of
opportunities that await them post-graduation. SCS students are well positioned
to gain entry into nursing and bio-engineering programs, schools that prepare
graduates for youth ministry and missionary work, as well as allow alum to share
God’s truth and love with peers at international universities, and arts/music
institutes.

Grow – A parent caught me in the parking lot to relay heartfelt thanks for the

relational and spiritual growth of their child. Following a difficult interaction
with a peer, parents and school leadership worked together to help make things
right and challenge these students to grow in the midst of their hurt. As the year
progressed, this parent’s child came to see their peer through the lens of God’s
grace.

Influence – In a group setting that included peers, a student encouraged the

student body to a higher calling as she confessed that the Lord convicted her of
having a grumbling spirit at certain times during the school year. SCS students
learn that being a follower of Christ changes everything – including what kind of
influence they have on others.
It has been said that every person will undergo a spiritual transformation
because every person’s spirit or soul will be transformed by the experiences and
influences they encounter. The only question is, “what will a person’s spirit be
transformed into?” Because Seattle Christian’s people and programs are aligned
to God’s Word, the experiences and influences of SCS students can be used by
the Lord to transform students into the image of Christ.
Thank you for your partnership in the mission and vision of Seattle Christian.
Your trust, financial support, and prayers are being used by God to change lives
for eternity!
Grace and Peace,

Laird Leavitt Page 3

Fifth Grade Outdoor Education Centered
Around God’s Creation and Power

In May, the highly anticipated trek to Whidbey Island for a week of learning had
arrived! Fifth grade teachers, Miss Pierotti and Mrs. Simmons, along with Mr. Smith,
high school student counselors, and parent volunteers traveled to Fort Casey with
“eager to learn” fifth graders for an unforgettable week of outdoor education. The five-
day excursion is special for the students as they are able to strengthen relationships with
each other and their teachers. For families, this treasured educational opportunity is
quite unique and a true highlight of their elementary experience at SCS.
During their time at camp, students participated in learning activities such as: Marine
life and beach ecosystem study, Forest ecosystem study, Meadow walk, Compass and
survival skills class, Fort Casey and Lighthouse tours and Teambuilding cheers and skits
just to name a few. A particular highlight was Sea Lab class where students learned
about the varieties of fish species and were even able to touch starfish. Each night, the
group shared personal devotions and worshipped by the campfire. It was a remarkable
week exploring the wonder of God’s creation.
