CLOSET LAYOUT INSPIRATION + IDEAS

The start of this year’s card wall

Here are a few other ideas for those willing to invest a
little more time and money in their holiday card display.

ALL ABOUT THE DRESSER

Remember, less is more with kids clothing (even with hand-me-downs).
I can’t emphasize this enough!

Buying a Dresser

⭐ Think long-term when it comes to investing in a dresser - that
means simple and classic. Save bold patterns for pillows.

⭐ Look for dressers with wider drawers which give us more flexibility
as children get older. Avoid lots of small, narrow drawers.

⭐ Drawers deeper than 10 inches are best for storing bulkier items
like sweaters and sweat pants.

⭐ When buying your first dresser for a baby, look for an option with
removable changing table or attach a pad to top of the dresser.

⭐ Using a dresser inside of a closet can be a budget friendly
solution versus building out a closet and provide much needed
drawers. Great use of an old dresser that doesn’t fit the room’s
décor.

Organizing a Dresser

⭐ Create divide in dresser drawers using shoe boxes, clear storage bins or
drawer dividers.

⭐ To make your own drawer dividers:
1. Cut a cardboard box the same height and depth as the inside of
your drawer
2. Wrap in favorite wrapping paper
3. Tape to inside of drawer. One section per category of clothing.

⭐ Drawers should not be jammed full of clothing. The easier things are to
put away, the more likely it is to happen.

⭐ Store items lightest to heaviest from top to bottom of dresser
(underwear in top drawer, heavy sweaters in bottom)

DRESSER LOVE

If your child has a closet in their room, a 3-drawer dresser
should be plenty of storage outside of the closet.

DRAWER VERSUS BASKET

If you are short on drawers but have shelves or cubbies,
use baskets for some items but certainly not all!

In a Basket Out of a Basket

Underwear/socks T-shirts
Leggings Shorts
Pants
Swimsuits/Leotards Dresses
Pajamas Sweaters
Hoodies/Jackets
Diapers/Wipes
Sports Uniforms

When picking a bin, choose the same, neutral color bin for
all sizes. While bright bins are fun, the closet can be crazy

enough so try to limit the chaos with simple colors.

Choose pretty wood

SETTING UP SYSTEMS

Everyone wants ”systems.” No matter your system, the key
to maintaining is acting often and quickly.

CREATE THREE BINS

(Location: Each closet, add a Donate bin to the laundry room)

them when bin is full.

⭐ When putting laundry away, if the item is too small or worn out, put it
in appropriate bin – donate or too small.

⭐ If you receive hand-me-downs, edit them upon arrival. It’s ok to not
keep everything you receive. Promise.

⭐ If you have multiple children, multiple sizes, store the next size
clothing in larger bins in a second location.

⭐ Set a reminder in your calendar to purge and rotate the clothes every
three months. If you continue to use the systems, fast and easy.

⭐ Use clear plastic bins for systems. However, if you have a child who
may care, pick a solid sided bin and store up high…or even better, a
grocery bag so you grab and go when time to donate.

Great size for inside of a closet. The cheapest, best Larger bins for garage storage.
