MESSAGE FROM GPF PHILIPPINES’ CHAIRMAN

The Philippines’ national growth in the last two years has been evident
as indicated by recent news and surveys. In a report by World Bank,
the economic growth accelerated to 7.2% amidst the impact of Typhoon
Haiyan. This report is a simple reflection on how Filipinos rebuild
themselves with resilience in every aftermath of a disaster or when
provoked with challenges.
In the same sense, it’s the same attitude that encouraged GPF to work
with Filipino communities in building a peaceful and progressive nation
despite the barriers. For GPF and our partners, the presence of these
barriers in the communities indicates an opportunity- to be of help to
others, to work together, and to be effective agents of change.
Each major program and special project of GPF Philippines represent
our commitment and contribution in creating peaceful and prosperous
communities. Each program reflects our desire to work with all sectors
by promoting cooperation among faiths, strengthening families and
communities, and promoting a culture of service.
Guided by our vision, “One Family under God,” Global Peace Foundation, above all, is committed to
build broad awareness of the importance of universal principles and shared values as the basis for social
cohesion and peacebuilding in global and local scale. These principles are embedded in the conduct of
each program and integral in the successful achievement of our short-term and long-term goals.
As we embark on this important journey, we also wish to recognize our esteemed partners who
nevertheless extended their resources, time, and efforts so we can collectively achieve our goals:
• Hands On Manila has been contributory in our efforts to reach out to corporations in funding All-

Lights Village development:
• ADP Philippines helped provide 40 solar lamps to 40 households in ALV Calawit, Balete, Batangas.
• FedEx Philippines donated 20 solar street lights in ALV Flora, Capas, Tarlac and helped refurbish

the community’s multi-purpose hall with its volunteers through the company’s CSR program.
• Zendesk Philippines provided 80 disaster preparedness kit to 80 households in ALV Dumanas.
• Department of Labor and Employment and Cooperative Development Authority recognized ten (10)
All-Lights Village associations and cooperative.
• Department of Interior and Local Government, through the Salin Tubig Bottom Up Budgeting
Project, awarded a water facility to ALV Tamale.
• Department of Trade and Industry, through the One Town One Product project, awarded a livelihood
grant of Php 150,000 ($3,000) to ALV Tamale.
• Samsung Philippines, a partnership initiated in 2014 through a Memorandum of Agreement signing
for the Education for All initiative with the Department of Education, donated 90 tablets, 2 printers,
and 2 laptops to 2 schools in ALV Flora and ALV Tamale. Moreover, the partnership extended with
the participation of Worldwide Fund, FitEd, and Frontlearners in the implementation of Samsung
Smart Classrooms in the ALV sites.
• All Nations Women Group, in partnership with Global Peace Women Philippines, donated 82 solar
lamps to 82 households in Sitio Sinariri, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.
• Rotary Club Makati EDSA donated 80 motor boats to 80 households in Kinatarcan Island, Sta. Fe,
Cebu.
• The Provincial Government of Masbate, a partnership formed through the Global Peace Youth
Exchange, launched ALV Kusog Masbate in Sitio Lote and Sitio Laray in Milagros to benefit 114
households.

The current and next generation of our work lie on the hands of every owner we encounter in this
endeavor who shares our vision. May this report and accomplishment inspire you to be one of us,
Peacebuilders, in enabling more communities towards a nation of service and peace.

PROGRAMS & All-Lights Village Project: Empowering
INITIATIVES Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines

The Global Peace Foundation Philippines’ All-Lights
Village (ALV) program launched its 40th All-Lights Village
in the country. The Agta Community in Sitio Pureg, Brgy.
Callungan, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan is the 40th ALV in the
Philippines and the first in Cagayan and Northern Luzon.
The community received portable solar lanterns for
eighty households; three solar street lights; and, two
solar generators to light up two classroom buildings of
Pureg Elementary School, a primary grade school that
caters to 60 Agta students with only two teachers.
“We hope that with this small lantern, our children will
learn to dream and hope and put these into real hopes
and dreams,” Mr. Jinsoo Kim, GPF Asia Pacific Regional
President, said during the launching.
The launching coincided with UN’s International Day of
the World’s Indigeneous People. Hon. Armin Luistro,
Secretary of Education, who willingly graced the
event said, “We should not only open our doors to the
indigenous peoples but our hearts and minds as well,
so we too can learn from them.” He inspired the Agta
people to dream and aspire to be like other Filipinos in
terms of achievements and contribution to the nation
building.
According to International Labor Organization (ILO),
it is estimated that 12-15 million indigenous people, or
approximately 15% to 20% of the total population, inhabit
the Philippines belonging to 110 ethnic communities.
Agta Chieftain Elpidio Tiene expressed his deepest
gratitude to everyone involved in making the project
possible especially to GPF and the Secretary of Education
who specifically recommended the sitio as a project
site. The chieftain said that their partners serve as their
‘actual light’ on the path towards their progress and
development.
Aside from the village in Sitio Pureg, GPF and other
partners also launched All-Lights Villages that aims to
develop indigenous peoples’ communities in remote
areas of San Luis, Aurora; Capas, Tarlac; Carmen, Davao
del Norte; and, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.
All-Lights Village (ALV) is a long-term community
development program of Global Peace Foundation. The
project combines solar technology with clean water

Trainings and Livelihood Projects

Earlier last year, Global Peace Community Farm
was declared by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources (BFAR) as the region’s demo farm for
organic aquaculture farming while the Department
of Education also announced the site as a practical
work area for K-12 Technology Livelihood Education
(TLE) Program.

Several technical trainings and refresher courses
were conducted since the second quarter of
2014 among the stakeholders to empower and
equip them with technical skills. Mr. Ramel Visto,
project adviser, has been very active in facilitating
workshops to re-echo the trainings he received.
Some of these trainings include: Organic Tilapia
Culture; Integrated Farming System; Postharvest
Handling and Processing on Fishery Products; and,
Vermi Culture. These trainings help equip members
to become more productive in utilizing their
harvested commodities.

The trainings are sponsored by Bureau of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources Region X (BFAR-Region XI),
Municipal Agricultural Office (MAGRO) of Carmen
Local Government Unit, Department of Education
(Division of Davao del Norte), and Barangay La Paz
as committed partners in supporting the initiative.
