Senior Sweethearts Dance

The Grace Vargas Senior Center had its Annual “Sweethearts’ Dance” on Thursday

The dance was sponsored by the Friends of the Rialto Senior Center. Entertainment was
provided by Art Cooper & Company. Light appetizers, finger sandwiches, potato salad,
cake, and punch were served throughout the event. The cakes were donated by Pichardo
Benefits Services LLC Representative Mike Pichardo. Volunteers from Carter High
School assisted with many aspects of the dance. Two of our senior participants
celebrated their birthdays. We had 90 senior participants in attendance.

YOUTH SPORTS

Youth Basketball (Divisions 2-5)
The Spring season began on February 2nd, 2019. Adverse weather had an impact on
our opening ceremonies but the spirits were high and all the games were able to take
place, according to schedule. Currently, there are 6 teams in our youngest and oldest;

divisions (5 and 2). We have 8 teams in both our 8 – 9 year old divisions, and 10 – 11
year old divisions. This season we will have an all-girls team returning to the 10 year
old division (3). Our picture day is scheduled for 2/23/2019.

Girls Volleyball

The Spring Volleyball season began on Feb. 1st, 2019. This season is one of our largest,
with 8 teams in the older competitive division (1). We have 3 new coaches for our
program with 2 more in the background stages. Our season opened with ALL of our
younger division girls’ teams in attendance. We have secured 4 sites for practice, next
season, Eisenhower High School, Jehue, Kucera, and Rialto Middle school. Our Picture
day is scheduled for 2/22/2019

Rialto Youth Sports Alliance

The Rialto Youth Sports Alliance will meet next on Feb. 27th, 2019. This is traditionally
the “Tax” meeting. All groups will report their tax paperwork and/ or preparation.

Contract Class

The contract class program has hit a minor speed bump, with the resignation of our
newly approved Ballet instructor. We are currently looking for a replacement. We have
a New CPR instructor that we contracted for monthly offerings. We continue to look for
exciting opportunities to add classes for the community.

After-School Teen Program

For the month of February, the Teen Center has given the opportunity to students across
the Rialto Unified School District to a variety of volunteer opportunities. Most students
help the Community Center on Friday’s during volleyball games. The Teen Program is
also gathering volunteers for the Spring Eggstravaganza special event next month and
the incentive will be a trip to watch the movie Captain Marvel at our new Cinemark
theatre in Rialto. We also discussed the opportunity to attend the Inland Empire National
College Fair in April. The Teen Program has also been holding job application and
academic resume workshops for the older teen participants to prepare them for college
or the workforce. We will be selecting two kids with good GPA standing and an interest
in civil duty to be a part of the Rialto Institute of Progress meetings as representatives
of the Teen Center. We want to begin to give the kids an inner look on the different city
departments and what the city has to offer in case one of them have an interest in civic
duty. Our next YAC meeting will be on February 28th, 2019 where we will be discussing
a future date where the Teen Center will host a “Clean the Community Center Day” that
will be open to all kids and parents across Rialto.
