contest!

Rules: Print the attached drawing on 8 ½” x 11” white paper or cardstock.
 NO FOAM CORE.
Do NOT attach coloring page to any type of backing such as construction
 paper, matboard, foam core, etc.
Use ONLY crayons, markers, or colored pencils. No other embellishments and
 no paint please. This is a coloring contest.
Coloring the entire image, including the background, is encouraged.
 Add as many personal touches as you would like; stuff in the sky and water,

Get your imagination and creativity “hopping” with this fun and creative decorating
competition. Follow the rules below as you design the funniest, cutest, most realistic,
silliest, or most original bunny you can dream up. Jump right in!

 Print out the attached bunny pattern on white paper or cardstock.
 Cut it out and mount it securely to an 8” x 10” black mounting board, heavy

cardstock, or cardboard (no construction paper or foam core). Bunnies
mounted on colors other than black will not be judged or displayed.
 ONLY BLACK 8” x 10” mount boards will be accepted.
 Entries larger or smaller than 8” x 10” will not be judged or displayed.
 Decorate your bunny using paint, markers, glitter, sequins, puff paint, felt,
buttons, feathers, pipe cleaners, etc. NO beans, cereal, or other food items.

Do you have a favorite fictional character from one of your best-loved books? It could be anyone from
Tarzan to Scarlett O’Hara to Captain Underpants. So many to choose from! Since fictional characters
never really existed, it’s the words on the page that bring them to life. Here’s your chance to have fun

creating a miniature likeness of your favorite character as you see him/her in your mind. Be sure to include

the hair, clothes, beard, glasses, or other features that really give your doll personality. On your entry form,

please indicate the name of the character you are creating so we can include it on the display tag.

 Print out the attached character doll pattern and cut it out on the solid line.
 Do NOT add seam allowances.
 Character dolls must be made with solid color felt or fleece ONLY.
 Cut out 2 pieces, one for the front and one for the back.
 Sew or glue front and back pieces together along edges leaving an opening for stuffing.
 Stuff character doll using polyester fiberfill only. Sew or glue opening closed.
 Bring your character to life by adding hair, a face, clothing, shoes, etc. You may use fabric,

color or style of clothing. The result is usually a nostalgic
and amusing depiction of just how much someone has
changed over the years. This competition is more about
creativity than actual photographic skills, but it sure is fun!

It’s easy, you don’t need to wait for somebody else to take
the photo, and you can capture a moment the way YOU see
it. It’s a perfect “up close and personal” means of self-
expression. And… it’s fun! Enter your best, most creative
and expressive selfie in this new competition.

Rules:

 Take your selfie “beyond the ordinary” by making
sure it is creatively composed, visually pleasing,
says something about you, or tells a story.

 The background may include other people,
animals, buildings, etc., but YOU must be
prominently featured in the photo.

 No “mirror” selfies
 No added text or graphics on photo.
 Selfies must be taken at a distance of an arm’s

length or closer. No selfie sticks.

Even if you’re not familiar with the traditional children’s
song “Down by the Bay”, you can definitely appreciate the
silly and imaginative rhyming schemes in the lyrics: Did
you ever see a moose kissing a goose? Did you ever see
a whale with a polka dot tail? What a fun introduction to
rhyming poetry for younger kids!

Rules:
 Write your own rhyme using one of these formulas:

Did you ever see a ______________
__________ing ___ ____________?

OR

Did you ever see a ______________
with a ____________ ____________?

 The last words in the two lines should rhyme while
creating a very silly sentence.

 Rhymes should be hand written on a 9” x 12” piece of
construction paper, any light color.

 Add an illustration to match the rhyme.
 Illustration may be created with pencils, crayons,

markers, or paint.
 Please write your name, phone number, and age on

the back of entry.
 Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and

adherence to rules.

Do you love adventure stories about searching for lost
treasure? What about stories of being shipwrecked on an
island after a storm at sea? Both of these themes are full
of possibilities for creative and imaginative writing.

Rules:
 Write an original short story about a search for lost

treasure or being shipwrecked on an island…or both!
 Stories can be between 1 -6 pages in length, with or

without illustrations.
 Typed or handwritten entries are both acceptable.
 Be sure to write your name, age, and phone number

on the back of your entry. Name may be on the front
of entry as well.
 Entries will be judged on clarity of content, use of
language, and adherence to rules.

Get the whole family in on the creative fun! We’ve expanded our toy assembly competition to
include adults and preschoolers. From Duplo to Lego to Lego Friends, choose
your blocks and get building! Put your imagination to work creating an exciting
Lego, Lego Friends, or Duplo structure of your choice. Anything goes!

 Deliver Lego creations on a sturdy cardboard or wood base (not just a
regular Lego building base) no larger than 16”x16”.

 Displays cannot be more than 18” high!
 Creations must be securely attached to base or display will not be

accepted.
 Preschool category must use Duplo blocks.
 NO KITS-Use your imagination! Using parts from different kits to create your own original

2017 LA County Fair

What is the Read to Ride Program?

The Read to Ride Program is a special reward program for school aged kids who read books over the
summer. Kids will receive free carnival ride vouchers good at the 2017 LA County Fair Carnival.

NOTE: Kids in kindergarten (not pre-school or transitional kindergarten) through 8th grade at
the time of the Fair are eligible to participate. Children younger than 5 years old are not eligible to
participate, regardless of reading ability. Please do not ask if your child can be the exception to this rule.

What Are The Rules? PLEASE READ ALL RULES CAREFULLY How Do I Enter?

1. Kids must read a minimum of 3 books and a 3. ALL participants must create a book report for
