What is a DDD, and how does it differ from a CPDR?
DDDs are different kinds of conversations about and for you
DDDs have a longer term focus: this is the opportunity to step back and reflect on our
journey through partnership, looking 3 to 5 years ahead and reflecting on identity,
purpose and career aspirations
DDDs are entirely focused on Development: in cases of performance issue the OL will
have a separate parallel conversation
DDDs offer a fresh space and perspective: they are done with someone other than the
OL (or other than the person who normally does the CPDR).
DDDs are anchored in reality: informed by recent references and past CPDRs, and
through a simple report feed into OL/Office development plans.
We will be launching the first wave of DDDs this autumn
We will learn from it and with your feedback make it even better the year after.
We are determined to keep the process simple so that the focus is on the content.
You will be personally invited either this year, or next or the one after to have a
DDD (process for this is in the attached document)
the process will be driven and owned by you, you will decide who you want to
have your DDD with (guidelines in the attached doc)
whilst this is something the large majority of you want and something we
encourage, it is also voluntary: if you do not want to have a DDD, you can say so
and will simply have a normal CPDR ho
the output will be a simple summary which you will write with your buddy’s
input and share with your OL
Q&A:
What is the rule for who gets a DDD which year?
It will be based on date of entry into the Firm, ensure a spread of tenure each
year and will aim at having a third of the partners in each office each year.
How do I choose who to do my DDD with?
For this year at least, we are asking you to choose this person from within the
Green Belt community. This is because Green Belts have been trained to have
this type of coaching conversations.
What if I do not want a DDD?
Whilst we believe it is very important for everyone to have the chance to
reflect with a fresh lens and envision the longer term, to reflect more deeply on
identity and direction, we are also clear that this has to be a voluntary exercise.
If you do not wish to have a DDD, let your OL know and you will have a CPDR.
What is the process I need to drive if I have a DDD this year?
1. Choose and contract a Partner
colleague, who is Green Belt trained,
with whom you would like to do your
DDD
2. Agree with him/her
the referees they should
speak to in advance
3. Schedule a 2-3 hour face to face
conversation (you will have enough
time to make sure you can schedule a
good time for both of you and avoid
travelling just for this)
4. Then you meet
and write up a short
report
5. Finally you schedule a short
debrief meeting with your OL to
share the output and the short
summary report, and discuss how
your OL/Office (practice group is
relevant) can support you on your
aspirations
