A Message from Chairperson Joseph Jaconetta

2018 was another dynamic year for the Connecticut River Valley
Chamber of Commerce. We welcome the 113 new members that have
joined us since the beginning of 2018. We continue to attract members
from the entire Connecticut River Valley region and beyond.
In 2018, we replaced our “mission statement” with our core purpose:
“To develop beneficial relationships that serve and enhance a thriving
regional business community.” It is our core purpose that guides us as
we create new networking opportunities and improve those that our
members have enjoyed for many years.
We embrace our niche as an organization that creates and implements
dynamic programs and events. We look forward to unveiling a new
spring event that will rival the success of our annual Apple Festival in October.
We care about the wellness of our workforce and pledge to make the world a better place to live
for everyone in our community. Charitable giving is now one of the core metrics that we use to
gauge our success as an organization.
2019 marks the beginning of another year of growth, innovation and collaboration. Thank you
for playing an important role in our regional Chamber of Commerce. I applaud your energy, your
positivity and your commitment.

Business Person of the Year

Dean Marchessault, President/Chief Executive Officer
of American Eagle Financial Credit Union

Mr. Marchessault joined American Eagle Financial Credit Union in June,
2000 after 20+ years of holding roles of increasing responsibility for a
CT savings and loan association, a MA regional bank, a large MA-based
regional bank with international reach, and a CT savings bank. Prior
roles at American Eagle include Vice President, Marketing, Senior Vice
President, Retail Banking, and Executive Vice President, Chief Operating
Officer. Dean became President and CEO on December 31, 2014.
Mr. Marchessault is active in advocacy for the credit union movement in
Connecticut and Washington, DC, and belongs to and collaborates with
the Credit Union League of CT (CULCT), Credit Union Executive Society
(CUES), the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), and the National
Association of Federally Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU). Mr. Marchessault
also supports the efforts of the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee
(CULAC) in advocating for support of credit union members nationally.
Mr. Marchessault is a member of the East Hartford High School Academy of Finance Advisory
Board, a Corporator and avid supporter of Klingberg Family Centers based in New Britain, CT, and
is active in many other charitable and philanthropic enterprises in the area including the United
Way and the Salvation Army. Mr. Marchessault is a Board member of the Connecticut River Valley
Chamber of Commerce and is currently on the ERCCA Steering Committee, as well as active in
other Chambers in Connecticut.
Mr. Marchessault received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bryant College,
Smithfield, Rhode Island. That is where he met the love of his life and international travel partner
Joan Rogan Marchessault, a lifelong educator and friend to all she meets. Dean and Joan have two
daughters, Kate, a community college professor and yogi, and Anne, a JD and interior designer and
architect.

Ways to Get Involved

POW (Power of Women) HERstory in the Making is the Chamber’s recently
revamped initiative for professional women. Gatherings are held to foster
business growth through connecting, learning, socializing, and building
authentic relationships. The Chamber espouses to be one whose women
members support and promote other women.
We’re currently recruiting for our new Diversity & Inclusion Task Force.
Diversity & Inclusion aims to provide an outlet for those who are currently
underrepresented in business, with the mission of making the Chamber a
more diverse organization.

TrailBlazers is an all encompassing initiative for leadership training and for
providing members an opportunity to change their respective communities.
Both Leadercast and CILA have events and workshops coming up in 2019.

NETWORKINGinNATURE

Networking in Nature takes you out of the office and into rushing rapids. It
replaces business suits with life-jackets and zip-lining harnesses. It’s about
building relationships with a grand view of the mountain you just scaled with
new friends.

Thank you to all of our SPARC members who supported our mission this
year. Your investment in this burgeoning group is an investment in your
corner of Connecticut. Join us again in 2019 as we continue to strive in
making our state a better place to work and live.
SPARC (Suburban Professionals Achieving Real Change) was founded in
August 2017. The CT River Valley Chamber recognized a need for young
professionals in the suburbs of Hartford to establish a hub for coming
together. SPARC focuses on altruism, education and social activities to
promote personal growth, family enrichment and peer relations.
A variety of Chamber members have hosted SPARC events, including
Northpoint Mortgage, The Capital Grille, bin228 Gastropub, The Hartford
Yard Goats Stadium, Figs Bistro + Bar and The Best Wine Shop in Town.
Upcoming hosts include Symmetry Partners, Hair Today and the CT River
Valley Inn. Contact the Chamber if you’re interested in hosting!
