highlights

WAML has been a project that has
always revolved around three main aspects.

We have strived hard to make sure, we deliver to
what we promised, making the “Clients Happy”.
We also made sure that our people met personal
aspirations and enabled them to develop,
thus making “Happy Staff”.

All these enabled us to acheive our targets of cost,
quality and time.

>60% design works in GDC. And with gaps
in GRIP3C, the team had to wrestle with 1.5x
scope at 0.7x cost and time.

With such a big challenge thrown up SCOPE WOONTREKIATIMNG STAKE
to us, it was time to have a HOLDERS
very well thought-out Strategy
approach to meet-up BUDGET
to the challenge.

In such a large Multi-Disciplinary project with added RESPROONLSEISBIALNITDIES
challenges it required the team to develop a comprehensive
Strategy Document. This masterpiece clearly defined a Project
Charter, Scope, Interfaces, Well-Described Roles and
Responsibilities, Assumptions / Risks, and Opportunities.

The Strategy Document really helped to carve Co-location
'One Dream for One WAML team'.
Realising this One Dream could have only been possible
• START if the multi-disciplinary team worked collaboratively
with each other from the beginning. The team decided
to unsettle themselves from their historically 'owned'
desks to co-locate elsewhere! What followed from there
was a mass exodus from various floors of Safina's South
Block to relocate to the 2nd floor on North Block.

• MID WAY As one of them aptly said:
"I've chosen co-location for co-ordination".
• END
Lessons Learnt

The infamous WAML team had now decided to unsettle others as well.
They called upon stalwarts from similar other projects to scratch their
brains and learn their LESSONS!

Intense workshops on Lessons Learnt were a one-of-kind regular feature
on WAML - at the very start, mid-way and at the end!

SharePoint site Document Control

What else? WAML went DIGITAL!
They set-up an Office365 SharePoint Project Site
to host live project data for easy access from any
device, any place.

Understanding the Challenge and being
prepared for it is only one aspect of the

challenge, the other main aspect of
it is to live upto it.

WAML indeed lived upto the challenge by making sure the team was
performing and delivering well within cost, quality and agreed timescales.

With the motto of “Programme is King” and “Quality is Queen” “OONnEeWDrAeaMmLfoTrethaem”
toI'lel xgpiveectsusuppppoortr,t
the project leadership ensured the team was fully aware of priorities to
deliver on time and to agreed quality, working together in true
collaboration. A very robust and dynamic change control management
made sure that any change coming along was dealt with, and was not
hampering the programme, both to the internal as well as external client.

Inspired by the theme of collaboration, the project leadership team
designed and printed personal placards for every team member as a
desktop reminder.

Wow! key highlights WOW!!

And as if everything mentioned above was not enough to prime and
energise the team, the project leadership team leaped ahead to
self-organise an offsite team workshop.

It was a half-day offsite event, completely designed and hosted by the
project leadership to bring the team together, reminding everyone of
the Big Picture, and equipping them for the battle ahead with essentials
of teamwork, active listening and a thrilling teambuilding activity.

Boy! There was new found talent within GDC!

With such long duration projects the team is bound to fatigue and burn
the wrong way. The leadership team made sure that the team was given
timely breaks with Fridays Samosa parties, given due appreciation with
WAML Star of the Week (popularly known as SoW) which was a
recognition of its kind with the Star of the week shining brightly for the
entire week on the WAML SharePoint site along with his / her success
stories. The appreciation was not only limited to acknowledgement but
also had a monetary benefit with an Amazon Coupon awarded to the
Stars.

OCOUMTE Success for WAML started from taking up the
challenge to living up to it. To just summarize the
success in terms of numbers so far:

to the common goal.
• Some accelarated deliveries Barry Taggart says:
The extent was 99% of the IDC due to construction priorities. “Successfully delivering the
meeting dates have been met. Ancillary Civils package of works, on time,
whilst working to an extremely tight
programme. Getting all the drawings ready
for IDCs prior to Christmas was a massive
achievement and was widely acknowledge
by the PM team as well as VFL.”

One of the few appreciations from our end client

Network Rail (NR), "what has been produced so far

the format and structured content as well." Steve

“I see a Bangalore on

statement summarizes the

contribution of GDC in
WAML and the extent of

design involvement.

Dave Conibeere, Dave Conibeere on the weekly meetings also thanked the team by saying:
WAML PM, thanking
the team in WOW said: “I am often asked by PM’s on other UK Projects about use of GDC and so far, I would totally
endorse you. The levels of GDC performance/effort/flexibility offered far outweighs any
specific issues we have faced from time to time. For these reasons & the obvious commercial
imperatives, I believe that GDC can firmly entrench yourselves at the heart of ARC Framework
design strategy in coming years i.e. Felixstowe GRIP5.”

“I am generally very happy with GDC’s contribution to WAML and the project has benefitted
from their presence. Programme delivery is very good and the team highly flexible. I would
recommend GDC to other UK colleagues”.

Mohan Rajadurai, Fantastic feedback!!...good job...for your dedication & persistence to deliver good
GDC Interface quality in time.
Manager, WAML
Well done to all of you!!!!...to where we were to where we are now…congratulate
yourselves & your teams. Let’s keep this positive momentum going & deliver this successfully.

Well done.......team. Excellent result of your continual hard work.
Keep it up guys.
