WHY PLANT A MEMORY TREE?

Trees are the oldest and largest biological systems on Earth. They live on sunlight, air, and water. Their branches reach high into the heavens in order to
capture the sunlight and air, while their roots reach far into the earth to absorb the water they need to stay alive. This is similar to how a victim of this violent
crime feels. Some will reach their hands up into the heavens looking for answers as to “Why?” In addition, their minds strive to refocus their sight on life rather

than death, while grief spasms may continue for a lifetime.

This tree will continue to breathe in carbon dioxide which we humans produce, and in turn will continue to breathe out oxygen which we humans need to
stay alive, which shows that trees and people are mutually dependent upon one another. MADD Southwest Florida will continue to support the victims of this
violent crime, by being good listeners, not being judgemental, reaching out in tangible ways, talking fondly of memories of our victims, and we will not let our

victims go through this journey alone.

Trees have been known to live for hundreds of years, as so will our memories of those who have been killed by drunk drivers.
