Pensby Post Summer 2018

Pensby Primary School

This term has been the term of trips, visits and team
successes. Oaklands proved to be a sensational trip this

year and team successes in all classes in sports and
academic challenges were in abundance!

Pensby Post
Summer term 2018

Headteacher’s Words

Dear families,

This academic year has passed by so quickly and we finish for the summer break on Friday 20th July!

Although school is closed, a lot is happening over the six week break. Stanley School are having an extension
to their car park. This is the grassed area between the 2 schools, where an additional 12 spaces will be
created. We also have a water leak that needs urgent attention so our car park will be dug up a bit as they
finalise where the leak is and repair it! Inside our school, we are having new cupboards built in the hall to
hold all the PE equipment and allow for all the musical instruments to also finally have a home! In the kitchen
we are hoping Mrs Humphries will have her new combi oven fitted—she will be so excited about that! Our
new CCTV system is also due to be installed—very exciting!

The development of the field is still no further forwards, despite your amazing attempts to canvass the local
councillors. Thank you to those of you who wrote/emailed to them. Your messages were incredible. The
residents who are fiercely complaining about the field development are continuing to do so! I have also
received complaints from residents on Old Wood, that the field should not be used for children to play—
their view will be destroyed by children playing and they don’t want to hear them! One of them claimed the
field was not on the approved plans!! Mr Roberts often receives complaints from the residents on Kentmere
Drive as well—about traffic and children playing. Despite this, it’s lovely that so many other people (and in
far greater numbers) let me and Mr Roberts know that they don’t agree with those who complain and
encourage us to carry on with the good work and plans in place that will benefit all the children. Thank you
to those many people—it really means so much.

In the Spring Term Post I told you about the GDPR requirements (General Data Protection Regulation). I have
left the Privacy Notice in this edition of the Post, so that you have another opportunity to read it.—it is on
the next 3 pages of this edition of the Pensby Post.

Our Nursery provision and extended services (breakfast and after school club) are very busy and will be just
as busy in the new school year. Sadly, we cannot create new places if a facility is full. I recommend to
families that you book places well in advance. The introduction of the 30 hour offer has had a significant
impact on places available, as the take up of these places has been significant. We are very proud to be one
of very few facilities who offers this flexible 30 hour childcare, but the downside is that places are very full.

Sadly, our 10 year celebration evening, due to be held on Saturday 29th September has had to be cancelled.
This is because not enough people came forward to help organise the event. I want to thank the few people
who came to several meetings and tried so hard to put this event together. It was a very big challenge with
so few people. The PTA will try to organise something in the new school year to celebrate the 10 years but
they will need help—the more people, the more that can be done. Please come along to the first PTA
meeting on Thursday 13th September at 6.30pm, so that we can put together a lovely event to
commemorate 10 years of being open!

My thanks to all the staff of Pensby Primary for being a pleasure to work with this year. Their commitment to
the children, school and families is remarkable. In my 30 years in various schools, I have never known such a
dedicated and hard working staff. Thanks also to the children for working so well this year and making our
school such a pleasant place to be—you really are amazing young people. The governors have been
marvellous this year with so many of them undertaking strategic key roles to make things so much better for
everyone in our school. Our governing body is at its very strongest—thank you! And finally to the families—
whether I see you daily at the gate or not as much, I know how much you do and how much you care. The
children are lucky to have you there, as are we. Thank you!

We finish for the Summer break on Friday 20th July and reopen to pupils on Wednesday 5th September.
Thank you for a great year. Have a lovely break.

Mrs K Brown, Headteacher

PTA Events and Donations!

Your PTA has continued to work so hard this term for the children in the
school. It has been a challenge as attendance at meetings has not been

high and a ‘few’ have battled on to do so much and keep things going.
You may not know, but each year the PTA thanks the year 6 children for

their help, by paying for a days treat for them. This year the children
went to the Hive—and had a fantastic time in the skateboard park,

sports hall, games room, music room and on the climbing wall!
The PTA also arranged for a range of new playground equipment to be
installed for all the children in the school. This cost just over £5000. The
children are loving their new equipment and the playground is now a

busy, exciting and interesting place to be.
The PTA want to carry on doing these great things for all the children
but they can’t without more people attending meetings and giving some
time to help. Please make next academic year the year you come along
and offer your help. Not only will you be helping your own child but all

the children in the school! Our next meeting is on
Thursday 13th September at 6.30pm in the school.

Please
make this
the meeting
you come

to!

Sports week 2018!

The weather in sports week was amazing! The main event for Nursery
was a ‘slash and play’ event— much needed with the heat of the day!

Reception class became gymnasts and years 1 and 2 were challenged to
a range of team games. The competition was stiff but the children were

good natured and celebrated well together.

Sports week 2018!

Years 3,4,5 and 6 were very competitive in their sports week events.
All the classes competed in outdoor events in their teams.

Throughout the week they took part in other events including
rounders, football, netball, dodgeball and basketball. They even took
part in yoga sessions—yoga is very popular with the children and is

excellent for physical and mental
health!!

Sports Week winners 2018!!

Congratulations to Kentmere team for
winning sports week! The team doesn’t

look that big, but between them they
had the skill, determination and

resilience to power through and win!!

Governor’s Page

Dear families,
It’s the end of another school year and as the governors reflect on all that has
happened we have to say—it’s been an incredibly good year!

One of the most satisfying successes has been the reorganisation of our Nursery
and extended schools provision. Our 30 hour offer has been such a success, not
just in terms of ‘filling’ places in the setting, but in terms of the support it can offer
to families. The staff have all come together and without doubt, they are an
incredible team who have found so much delight in working together and with the
children and families. The only issues is that the setting is now so successful, some
sessions for September are already full!

This year, it has been very clear to our governing body and the governing bodies of
the Federation Schools, that we have to look at all areas of our budget spend to
ensure we are spending wisely. This last term we have been focusing on the
schools utility bills— that’s a total of about £30,000 per year! We are also looking
at how we get our energy and whether we should pursue alternative sources such
as solar power etc. It’s a huge task and one that is complex and challenging. We
have key governors working with Mrs Brown on this project and hope for some
exciting outcomes in the future.

A governing body of 12 is bound to face changes and we said goodbye to Mr Farrell
this year. He was a great addition to our governing body and reluctantly left. He
was a great advocate of developing the field area and creating an exciting learning
environment for the children—and this is something we will continue. Thank you
to Mr Farrell. We were pleased to Welcome Mr Weston to the governing body.
Already he has had a very positive impact and is working with Mrs Brown on GDPR
requirements. His knowledge and expertise in this area is a great benefit to the
school.

On behalf of the governing body, I thank you for
working with the community of the school so posi-
tively this year and wish you all a very happy and
safe summer holiday.

Mr. D Spencer
Chair of Governors.

Year 6 Charity Day

Huge congratulations to year
6. With only a week to
prepare, they held their

annual charity day and it was
BRILLIANT!! Overall they
rasied £650!!

TRIPS &
VISITS!

This term, classes have visited theatres,
museums, factories and cities. No matter

which class it was the same story came
back—that everyone praised our children

for their excellent attitudes and
behaviour. Well done, children!

Cooking for the homeless

children and their and Mrs Humphries for
families for your their time and
incredible charity

homeless. The meals

the children made
looked delicious and

were so gratefully
received.

Outdoor
classroom day

The whole school took part in outside learning
day. All sorts of activities took place linked to
every area of the curriculum. The weather really
helped to make it a fabulous experience for

everyone!

The Royal Wedding

We celebrated the Royal Wedding! Early
Years held their own wedding complete
with a wedding breakfast! Year 1 held a
street party with cake and sandwiches.
Classes made cakes, researched the history

of the Royal family and looked at the
timeline in the atrium to check their facts!

Everyone was very excited to see this
special event take place!

Pensby on Display!

Pensby Primary always look amazing and
the children’s work and learning displays
really make it special. This page captures

some of the work on display this term.

School Office Page

Dear families,

The office team want to thank you all for your help this year—it’s been
so busy!

This term, the team have been working with a supplier to develop a
new signing in and out system that will be much easier to use than the
one we currently have. This new system should be installed when we

get back. There may be a few teething issues (we find that with new
technology!) but please bear with us and we will sort them out quickly!

This term we have been working with you to get your data collection
and permission sheets back in. This has been very successful thanks
to your support and help. In the autumn term we will moving to a new

data management system called SIMS lite. This data system will
enable you to log in and change your own data such as mobile phone

numbers etc. We are very excited about this system as it will be so
much easier for everyone to use. We will get more information to you

about this as soon as we can.

Another development for next term will be how the PTA use TUCASI
and how the office sets TUCASI up for the PTA. We want to work

together to make it easier for families to keep on top of PTA events
and pay for them nice and easily—especially in the autumn term with
Christmas looming! We hope to do this, by ‘lumping’ events together
and giving a total cost very early in the autumn term. We will work on
this very early in the autumn term and get information to you as soon

as we can.

Remember to keep checking for whole school information on the
School Office page of the website:

Have a wonderful summer!

remembering complex instructions and getting themselves

well organised for activities—great life skills!

SATS Party!

After the hard work of SATs week, there
is a year 6 tradition—the SATs party.
This party does include cake and
chips...but before that everyone goes
outside and gets very wet! Games are

played with sponges and buckets and Mr
Klausen brings his water pistol!

SCIENCE
