The Best Time in The Last 50 Years to Buy a Home
It seems almost unimaginable that only a few decades ago homebuyers were faced with interest rates over 17% when they refinanced or purchased a new home. Imagine how difficult it was to qualify for a $200,000. Mortgage for 30 years with a monthly payment of $2950.00. for homebuyers in the early 80’s.The cost of a loan at this rate was over 1 Million over the life of the loan. With the average median
income of just $25,000 in the Northeast in 1980, its amazing anyone could afford to buy a home. A monthly mortgage payment consumed over 65% on total family income and often many needed second jobs to just make mortgage payments.
For those of us who have been around a while,
you know that the current times are a gift compared to the 1980’s. In all seriousness, if you take a look at the charts below you can clearly see that the periods between 1980 and today are clearly showing that it is indeed the good ole days right now.Today with median home prices in the northeast approaching
