0Si*tffi CHAPTER RELATIONS:

"Although we might not always see

eye to eye, we are thereforeach other, no
5?" matter what," say the women of Zeta Pi Chapter

(U of Alabama Birmingham). Effective chapter relations
results in a caring sisterhood. A strong Chapter
Relations Committee enforces AOII policy, but also
ensures the chapter environment is positive for all
members. Zeta Pi members genuinely enjoy spending
time together. Sisters can be spotted shopping, listening
to live music, or experiencing a new sushi roll together.

Kappa Lambda (U of Calgary) maintains

quality communication. Officers meet
with their advisers regularly, and keep a
strong bond with local alumnae. Members
stay in close contact with the University
and sisters are involved in making
campus decisions as part of the Student
Union. Despite being many miles from
Headquarters, the chapter always ensures
that AOII knows what they are up to,
like sharing about their 24 Hour Foosball
Tournament that raised over $900 for
juvenile arthritis.

=_ The ladies of Pi Delta Chapter (U of Maryland) understand that recruitment goes beyond bid day. As the recipients of
= the Membership Recruitment and Retention Award, they maintain a stable membership, even class sizes, and have
= a high initiation rate. The chapter's success is due to their strong sisterhood and their ability to recruit well rounded
= new member classes. When describing their newest class they said: "Our new members bring a lot of variety to our
= chapter. These women come from Massachusetts to Texas, and participate in an array of activities from Competitive
— Cheerleadmg to the universities highest honors society- the Gemstone Program." Pi Delta makes sure their members
= get as much out of their AOII experience as possible. The chapter gives members many opportunities to be involved in

PROGRAMMING:

A balanced calendar is essential to

prevent member burn out, and to

accurately provide the best AOII

experience for each member. By

incorporating education, sisterhood, and

ritual into business meetings, chapters

prevent over programming. Zeta Chapter

(U of Nebraska-Lincoln) ensures each

member knows what is on her agenda for

the entire semester, as the calendar is

always prepared one term in advance.

The chapter plans the calendar by

giving each officer a block of colored

post it notes. For each event she is

planning, an officer will put her post its on a blank calendar. The chapter xj"

is then able to move the post its around until the calendar is balanced.

| Maintain High Standards

There are many different elements that contribute to the success of a
chapter, and each area must be working in order for a chapter to be
functioning at its full potential. The Standards of Excellence are a guide
to help each collegiate chapter operate as smooth as possible. Following
these guidelines will help your chapter run smoothly and provide the well
rounded AOII experience that each member deserves.

For a complete listing of the Standards of Excellence and what is required
to meet each standard, please visit the Officer Resources Library on the
AOII web site. Talk with your Collegiate Network Specialist about what
standards you are currently meeting and how you can use the SOEs to
plan goals for your chapter.

/lr r(i;//f: A number of the AOII scrapbooks we hold in the archives are priceless treasures, like
these from Nu Kappa (Southern Methodist U). They reflect the life of a chapter and its members
like nothing else we possess. Very different from more modern day scrapbooks, they tend to place
emphasis more on campus activities than chapter activities, and on individual members rather
than chapter honors. What is clearly evident in all eras, though, is the love for sisters and AOII.

is the Alumnae Centennial Quilt. Completed in 1997 to commemorate the Fraternity's 100th
birthday celebration, each square is a unique tribute to our AOII alumnae chapter hometowns.
Mary Turner Diaz, Pi Kappa (U of Texas - Austin), Centennial Quilt Project Chairman, stitched
the Centennial logo in the center. Each alumnae chapter was provided a quilt square along with
guidelines allowing for a vast range of creativity that is evident in the final piece. Participation was
voluntary and nearly 100 chapters contributed squares to the magnificent creation. The quilt is one
of the highlights of every AOII Headquarters tour.

education I can afford. In 1997,1 had the good fortune to be selected as a Diamond Jubilee Scholars]lip recipient

duringrayeducation at Washington University. This assistance was very welcome since I was atterding a rull-

time MBA program at one of : competitive and expensive programs in the United States.

With the funding provided by I Foundation, I was able to afford housing close to campus ai ut back
hours on my part time job. Is itimecommuting and moretimedevoted to my studies and
activities. I graduated with he 1 six outstanding job offers from very good companies.

Today, IBM, where the opportunity to consult for top global companies such as

I currently earmark my annual donations to AOII Foundation for their scholarship program

frw H ; these funds can assist others in their education pursuits. I appreciate the financial help
