Eighth Grade Trip to Washington!

On Wednesday June 1st, the eighth grade boarded buses and headed for the nation’s capital! Their first
stop was the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The students toured the Lincoln Memorial,
Vietnam Memorial, and Korean Memorial. The boys then went to The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum,
while the girls went to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The students went to a
souvenir shop, and went to take a picture outside the White House. After eating dinner at the hotel,
students had a wonderful night of bowling. The following morning the students ate breakfast and davened
at the hotel, and then went on a guided tour through the capital. They then went to Six Flags Amusement
Park, followed by a pizza dinner served at a rest area! Thank you to Mrs. Golubtchik, Mrs. Orlanski, Morah
Beer, Morah Hadas, Rabbi Landsman, Rabbi Nat, Rabbi Kramer, and Rabbi. Howitt for chaperoning this
memorable trip!

Author David Adler Inspires Second Graders to Write!
On Thursday, June 2, the Second Grade visited the Library for a memorable talk about the benefits of writing
one’s own personal story. David Adler is the celebrated author of over 200 books, including the Cam Jansen
series, a picture book biography series, and numerous math books. Several weeks of Library classes were devoted
to this special author visit. He began his presentation by selecting individual students as his “inspiration” for
potential future books, emphasizing that some of the best ideas come from real-life. As a former math teacher, Mr.
Adler made a striking comparison between
mathematics, which has only one right answer,
and the writing process. We are always “right”
when we “write” a story! Inspired by Mr.
Adler’s first book, A Little at a Time, Class
2-204 wrote about their many accomplishments
over the course of the school year, all achieved
“a little at a time.” Much thanks to Mrs. Guise,
the English Teacher of this class, for creating
an eye-catching poster as a special welcome for
Mr. Adler. Thank you to Morah Etta for
organizing this special day. A heartfelt thanks
to the PTO for sponsoring this unforgettable
author visit!

Chagigat Bnot Mitzvah
The sixth grade girls had a wonderful experience this past Monday evening as they
celebrated becoming Bnot Mitzvah. The girls wrote beautiful essays about their
namesakes, and raised money for a girls orphanage in Israel. The girls performed for
their guests and ate a delicious dinner. Each girl received a “Women’s Siddur” along
with a copy of her namesake in a beautiful frame, and a booklet containing the
namesake of all their peers. Many thanks to Morah Hadas Fried and all of the
Morot for all their hard work in making this evening so special.

Celebrate Israeli Day Parade!

On Sunday June 5th, YCQ proudly marched up Fifth Avenue, along with thousands of other
students from the tri-state area to Celebrate Israel! Our theme this year was “Imagine Israel…”
as depicted on our beautiful shirts. Special thanks to Mrs. Liron Friedman, Mrs. Linda Benson,
Mrs. Ramona Lubek, Rabbi Hamel, Mrs. Teichman, Mrs. Golubtchik, Mr. Cruz, Mariano, and
Kevin! May we be zoche to march next year in the parade leading up to the third Beit
Hamikdash in Yerushalayim Habenuya!!

YCQ Students Receive Presidential Fitness Test Awards

Eleven years ago, YCQ enrolled in the US Presidential Fitness Program to encourage and promote healthy and active lifestyles for it’s

students. The results eleven years later are evident in the higher test scores that all of our children are reaching during the challenge.
And, there are many more “National” or “Presidential” certificates then those first years. All four physical tests must be passed at a

higher level. The tests are designed to measure muscular strength (push-ups), cardio-respiratory endurance, (the quarter, half, and

one mile distance run), agility (the shuttle run), and flexibility (sit-ups). We begin introducing all parts in the fall at a moderate pace. By

the spring, the students are ready for their final tests. Everyone should be congratulated for doing their best. The following names are of

The YCQ-PTO is excited to be able to be giving our parents an opportunity to

upcoming end of year grade trips, gifts for the 8th grade graduates, and year end
