Why I Support UCM

+ Leanna Fawcett Vincent, Class of 2001

It feels daunting to sum up how much UCM has meant to me. I came to UCM during a time of trauma and
tragedy. Julie reached out to me at that time and supported me by listening, guiding and reflecting God’s love
during very dark and difficult moments. When I began attending the UCM weekly worship, I found the
religious community I had been seeking—a group of people focused on deepening connections to God,
reflecting God’s love to those around us, and dedicated inclusivity and social justice. I met people who
provided me with a safe place to heal, find joy, and rediscover myself, and envision my future.

In part, my experience at UCM led me into a career in education working with students who experience
poverty, prejudice, and academic challenges. I feel profoundly called to do this work—to help them become
their best selves. I seek to live out my faith each day and to provide UCM support because UCM supported
me.
