Bob Daros
For Town Councilman

Hello, my name is Bob Daros and I’m running for North Salem

Town Council.   I’d like to introduce myself.

I have lived in North Salem all my life and my family has lived
here since the mid‐1800's. My grandmother on my mother’s
side was a Juengst, the family that built the Juengstville area of
Croton Falls.  My grandfather on the my father’s side was a
master mason and was the head mason in the construction of
Purdy's High School which is now the WEC school in Purdys. He
personally laid the bricks for the entire front facade, work done
so well it has not needed to be touched since. That sort of
dedication to doing the job right runs in the family.
Bob Daros and wife Ellen Falk.
I grew up in Purdys and then Croton Falls and currently live on
Titicus Road with my wife, Ellen Falk, who teaches at North Salem High School, and a few dogs and cats. I have one son and
two stepchildren, along with three grandchildren.   I went to school here, beginning at PQ and finishing up at the North Salem
Middle and High Schools, graduating in the class of 1986.

I was a Cub Scout and played Little League baseball.  I have been a businessman all my adult life.   In 1991 I cofounded Heritage
Fuel, which today supplies fuel oil for most of North Salem’s households.   In 2006 I co‐founded Heritage Propane.  I have been
a member of the National Association of Oil and Energy Professionals, Westchester chapter, since 1998 and have served as
treasurer of the organization since 2001. I have been on the national board of directors  since 2002 and am currently chairman
of the national awards committee.

I joined the Croton Falls Volunteer Fire Department while still in high school and have been one of the five Fire Commissioners
since 2001 and currently serve as Chairman of the Board.

Since being appointed to the Town Board last spring to fill a vacancy, I am working on getting generators installed in the
various town water districts, so that residents of those districts do not lose water in a power outage. I have also been working
with state police to deal with the deteriorating bridge on Route 116 that currently has a weight restriction of 16 tons and
would cause major traffic disruptions if the situation gets worse.

I have also been working with fellow Town Board member Martin Aronchick as liaisons to the Planning Board and to the
Croton Falls Master Plan.  I have worked all my life to give back to the town I love and I would be honored to have your vote on
November 3rd so that I can continue to do so on the Town Board.

Thank you for your consideration.

CROSS COUNTRY

North Salem runners ready for fall season

Girls, led by Ava Jolley, look to win fourth straight league title

BY BRIAN MARSCHHAUSER
SPORTS EDITOR

All interscholastic sports will have to adjust Ava Jolley runs in last year’s section title race. Mia Santis
to new guidelines that are intended to keep
student-athletes and coaches safe this season. Jake
However, cross country has the advantage being Greenberg
a non-contact sport involving little equipment
held entirely outdoors, which lends itself more FILE PHOTOS/ROB
naturally to socially distancing—particularly DIANTONIO
for runners who can easily separate themselves
from the pack.

Leading the North Salem girls’ squad this
year in their quest to win a fourth consecutive
league title is senior Ava Jolley. Last year, Jolley
took second place at the Section 1 Coaches
Invitational, rst place at the Westchester
County Championship, rst place at the
Section 1 Championship, third place in the
New York State Championship, and fourth
place in the New York State Federation Meet.

Instead of piling expectations onto his star
runner, Chris Gould, coach of the cross country
team, said he told Jolley to relax and have fun.

“Given the type of season we’re having here,
I want her have a fun season. I want this to be
all about fun. No pressure,” Gould said. “Last
season, she was getting noticed and recruited
[by colleges] pretty heavily. So, there is not
really pressure about having to perform, per se.”

Joining Jolley on the girls’ side are returning
sophomores Isabelle Schembri and Mia Santis.
Isabella Fryer is a freshman runner worth
watching, Gould said. But winning a league
title will be tougher without Juliette Intrieri and
Emma Litch eld, who graduated in the spring.

“With the girls, we’ve won three league titles
in a row,” Gould said. “So, we certainly have a
goal of hitting that fourth. We lost a couple of
seniors who helped us get there.”

Gould said the boys’ side has also shown
some talent, singling out sophomore Jake
Greenberg and junior AJ Laquer. In total, the
team boasts 15 boys and ve girls, with only

ve upperclassmen.
“We had our rst practice [Tuesday, Sept.
29],” Gould said. “We had a good, solid rst
practice. A good portion are younger and fairly
new to the sport.”

e team must practice 10 times before
competing. So, if everything goes according to
plan, North Salem will be able to compete by
Saturday, Oct. 10. Large meets with dozens of
schools and hundreds of runners are out of the
question this year, meaning most meets will be
dual meets with one other school.

“I think a lot of schools are thinking about
keeping all the meets within their league,”
Gould said.

e exact schedule has yet to be nalized.
But because North Salem has a “legit” cross
country course, Gould said, he anticipates
hosting many meets this fall.

“As for going to other places, we’ll have to
see,” Gould said. “ ere is so much that has to
be decided. For me, I’m just training them as
if we’re going to have a relatively normal cross
country season.”
