To Our Valued Customers:

We wanted to let you know that we are closely monitoring the ongoing developments related to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The safety and well-being of our employees and customers is of the utmost importance to us, and we wanted to reach out to let you
know that we are taking appropriate precautions to keep our employees informed and ensure your shopping experience is a safe one.

Uncle Giuseppe’s is an environment with food safety standards that meet and exceed local and state requirements for industry
best practices. Food contact surfaces are cleaned and sanitized regularly, and we thoroughly clean public areas and restrooms on a

frequent basis.

Our enhanced maintenance includes:
• Having a dedicated greeter at every store wiping down carts

with sanitizer as customers walk in.
• Cleaning and sanitizing customer touch points such as debit/credit card machines, door handles, deli kiosks, etc.

Additionally, we’ve implemented a new hand washing protocol that goes above and beyond industry standard. Our employees now
use a “Stop, Wash and Change Your Gloves” policy whereby all food handling employees practice this every 2 hours or as needed if
sooner. We’ve advised any employees who feel ill to remain home until they are in good health. We will continue to closely monitor
and follow all recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, our state and local health departments, and our food industry

trade associations.

As with other retailers in the area, we are starting to experience short supplies on certain high demand products. As a result, we’ve
implemented a purchase limit on items such as sanitizing wipes and sanitizers. Our teams are working hard to ll the stores as
supplies permit. Delivery trucks are arriving daily and we are re-stocking shelves as products come in. This includes but is not
limited to fresh meat, produce and grocery essentials.

We want you to feel safe shopping at Uncle Giuseppe’s, and hope these added precautions allow you to shop with con dence. Should
you have any additional questions, please see your local store manager. From our family to yours, stay safe and healthy!

pandemic and the devastating e ects on soldiers and civil-

ians was depicted in grim detail in a PBS documentary.

Now schools, libraries, restaurants, and movie theaters

are closed. e images of men and women standing on

long lines just to enter grocery stores seems surreal. Visi-

tors are not allowed into nursing homes to see loved ones.

Since all of my writing classes fall under the “group

gathering” category, social distancing means that we are all

just basically better o staying at home away from other

humans. On my rst day at home, I sulked and read in the

rocking chair. I gave myself a good talking to and re-

minded myself that I enjoy staying home and am thankful

that my home has heat and power, good food to eat, plenty

of books to read and lots of time for writing. I am very

thankful for this mild winter. I did not have to cancel any

classes due to snow days.

I decided to schedule my days of solitude around break-

fast, lunch, afternoon snack time and dinner. I stay caught

up on laundry, organize my clothes closets, take a walk

outside, read in the rocking chair and, of course, write.

Here is what I have been reading so far: two collec-

tions of short stories – e Night in Question by Tobias

Wol and Elbow Room by James Alan McPherson, a new

cookbook – Ultimate Veg by chef Jamie Oliver, and People

Magazine.

Here is what I look forward to eating during afternoon

snack time: dark chocolate bars, Yodels, Girl Scout in

Mints, chocolate tru es, and chocolate-brownie ice cream.

My cupboards and refrigerator contain enough pasta,

brown rice, canned salmon, granola bars, mini crumb cakes,

oatmeal, eggs, cheese, yogurt, apples, avocados and bananas.

I’m good on bottled water and co ee.

I feel healthy and will try to remain optimistic. My par-

ents and friends are still healthy and for that I am grateful.

ree years ago, I took to heart the concept of changing

the phrase: “I have to…” to a more positive mindset of: “I

get to…” It really is a positive attitude adjustment.

Here is a helpful phrase to keep in mind during these

stressful times: “Life is not about waiting for the storms to

pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” Also, try

to keep in mind: “Life is 10% what happens and 90% how

you react to it.”

In an email to my adult writing class students, I closed

with the line: Stay healthy and safe, read, eat chocolate and

keep writing!

To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can
appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using
the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
