have been involved with
the Holy Trinity NYC
Soup Run for years. It’s
a monthly visit to 33rd
Street in Manhattan
where a small group of
volunteers distribute
hot meals, toiletries and
other essentials to about
100 of the city’s home-
less. Once Covid-19
hit, the Run was put
on pause and the group shifted its e orts to feeding those nd-
ing shelter in various Westchester facilities. e girls continued
making and delivering food to these places but saw another need,
the need for masks. ey decided to take action and learned to
sew them by watching YouTube videos. Whenever they needed
a break from distance learning, they took to the machine trying
di erent patterns. It took practice but by June they were experts.
Along with their June food delivery to Grace’s Kitchen, they do-
nated 25 homemade masks. Workers and clients were so grateful.
In early July, Holy Trinity announced that it would start the Run
back up, but with very few volunteers traveling to the city. e
girls decided their contribution would be to provide each “client”
with a mask in addition to toiletry kits. Once again they took to
the machine and have completed 100 masks for the Run.
