The President

Christine Meuers

Independence Day was celebrated in style this year with the first annual 3rd of July Party.  I hope you enjoyed
the games, food and, of course, the fireworks.  We had excellent attendance and a wonderful time was had
by all.  Many thanks to Bob White, the department heads and the entire staff for the hard work that went into
making this celebration special for our members and their guests.

I recently read the following in an industry publication: “With today’s seemingly endless national and
international political turmoil, it is not surprising that many private clubs have sought more and more ways for
their clubs to be refuges for their members … Simply put, private clubs have sought to adopt a business
concept long embraced by Starbucks and its former CEO Howard Schultz: ‘the business of human connection
and humanity, creating communities in a third place between work and home’.” It is our hope that the sixty-
three families who recently became members of our “Club of Good Fellowship” will find Town & Country to be
that source of refuge and community, as do our longer-term members. The General Manager welcomes any
and all feedback from members on our facilities so please share your thoughts with Bob.  We are still actively
recruiting new golfing members at the corporate and associate levels, so see Tregg Hagen or Bob White if you
have a potential member you would like to refer.

On the Pro Shop’s page in this newsletter, you will see information on the new “Clubs for Caddies” equipment
drive. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to support our caddie program and to help provide the tools
for them to access the game of golf.

As many of you know, the Club’s former controller will be sentenced later this summer for her crimes of
embezzlement and fraud against the Club.  While the hearing date has not yet been set, the government is
accepting letters from victims harmed as a result of the commission of this federal offense. Not only has the
Club been a victim, but we believe that the members and employees of the Club are victims as well.
Accordingly, you are welcome to prepare a letter addressed to Hon. Donovan W. Frank, United States District
Court, 316 North Robert Street, Suite 738, Saint Paul, MN 55101 ( Re: United States v Julie Ann Lee Docket No.
0:17CR00214-001(DWF)).  The letter should outline how you believe that you have been affected by this crime.
Please drop off completed letters at the front desk or give them to Bob White no later than Friday July 20 and
we will include them with the Club’s submission. Of course, we will keep you posted on further developments
and when the sentencing will take place.

There is still a lot of summer left and many excellent programming to come. I look forward to seeing you all

around the Club.

Our “Spring Into Action Membership Drive” was a huge success but our work is not finished yet. We met our
goal by filling the available Social Membership Category and exceeded our goals for Associate Members.
Unfortunately, we did not hit our Corporate Membership goals so I am asking the membership to reach out to
anyone that you feel may be interested in a Corporate Membership. The only thing you need to do is refer the
prospective member to myself or Tregg Hagen our Marketing Director and we can do all the follow up work.

We started the summer with some wonderful events including the New Member Mixer, Ladies Guest Day, Men’s
Guest Day and the Caribbean Happy Hour at the pool. I must tell you that everyone that attended the Couples
Twilight Event was amazed by the food & wine stations set up around the golf course. Please mark your
calendar for the next Couples Twilight on Saturday, July 14th because I am sure you will have a great time with
your friends.

Events Coming Up:

Tuesday, July 10th – Mixed Tennis Event
Thursday, July 12th – 9 Hole Ladies Guest Day

Saturday July 14th – Couples Twilight
Wednesday, July 18th – Men’s Tennis Guest Night

Wednesday, July 18th – Ladies Wine & Nine
Thursday, July 19th thru Saturday 21st – Old Scot Invitational

Thursday, July 26th – Interclub Swim Meet
Friday, July 27th - Star Wars Happy Hour at the Pool
Saturday July 28th & 29th – Couples Club Championship

Tuesday, July 31st – 18 Hole Ladies Guest Day
Saturday, August 4th – Camp Country Club

Please R.S.V.P. as early as possible

Lastly, the 3rd of July Fireworks Celebration went wonderfully and the compliments on the event were
overwhelming. Please read the article about the 3rd of July in this newsletter. I’m sure everyone will be
looking forward to this event next year.

Have a wonderful rest of the season. 3

Please Welcome Lara Long

Assistant Food & Beverage Manager

I am very excited about this new adventure that I am beginning at Town &
Country.  I look forward to working with the amazing staff and getting to
know members, I am lucky to know a few already.  Most importantly I can’t
wait to meet everyone and get to know the Club and learn more about its
history and how we can continue its great legacy.  I am sure my time here
will be long lived and very rewarding.
I started my journey in the hospitality industry at The Classic on Excelsior Blvd in St. Louis Park in 1993.  During
the next 20 years I have been at multiple restaurants both here and in Los Angeles.   I was proud to be a part of
the inaugural season (2010) at Target Field and as the bar manager at The Metropolitan Club, which is now Bat
and Barrel. The next two seasons I bartended on the Budweiser Roof Deck.  In 2013 I found The Minneapolis Club
and fell in love with the private club experience.

As you will all find out very quickly I love to make people laugh and strive to provide the best experience daily.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything.  I am not shy when it comes to talking about myself and I’m eager to
learn more about everyone here at Town & Country.

A Message From The Greens Committee

On Behalf of Mark Sexton & Bill Larson, CGCS

Greetings from the Town & Country Green Committee. We hope everyone has had a great first half to the
season, and a huge thank you to Superintendent Bill Larson and his Turfgrass Management Team, as well a Head
Pro Tom Skoglund and his entire Golf Staff, for their efforts and presentation of the course. I hope you enjoyed
the Independence Day celebrations and we look forward to the back half of our golf season. The course has had
a lot of play and a few basic reminders may help all of us maintain the course – your course – in the best possible
condition. Here are five simple things we can all do:

(1) Repair ball marks on greens – we have seen a dramatic increase in un-fixed ball marks on greens. Whether

it’s your ball mark or a stray, if you see one, fix it.

(2) Replace divots – some divots shred, and that is ok; but again, we’ve seen an uptick in unreplaced large

divots. Be considerate of players coming behind you.

(3) Rake bunkers – playing from a bunker is tough for most amateurs; please don’t make it worse for someone

after you by leaving footprints or holes in the sand after you exit the bunker.

(4) Remove tees from turf – tees pounded into the ground after an errant tee shot end up damaging mowers,

and a tee box littered with tees is unsightly; pick them up.

(5) Be smart with your cart -- keep carts on paths where able; keep away from tees, greens, approaches, and

surrounds; do not drive carts through the fescue areas; do not drive carts into low/wet areas.

Lastly, play “ready golf” and have fun; it’s a game! 4

3rd of July Party

Thank you for making the first annual 3rd of July Fireworks show a huge success. We had over
750 members and guests attend the party. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive
and we cannot wait to make this event a staple at Town & Country Club.

The carnival games were a blast for the kids. The most popular game had to be the Dunk
Tank. We had all of our favorite staff lined up to take a turn going in the the tank. A special
thanks to Andrew, Megan, Brady, Roan and Carter for volunteering for the Dunk Tank.

The Power Bungee was busy all night with some very energetic kids! This was another highlight
of the night. I didn't know it was possible to do 5 flips in a row on one bounce, but it
happened! The rock climbing wall was busy as well with the bravest kids taking their turn
scaling the wall!

The bouncy house was perfect for all ages and was full all night! Overall the carnival games
were a blast and it was so fun to see our youngest members enjoying every minute of it!

Tom, Brady and the Pro Shop created a super challenging mini putt course on the practice
green. Many of our members took on the challenge to make par!

The Surly Truck was a hit! Our members had the chance to enjoy 4 of Surly's most famous
beers. A special thanks to Surly for making us a priority on this Holiday!

It really felt like a "Mini State Fair" at the food stations! We featured Chicken on a Stick, Asian
Noodles with Ahi Tuna, Italian Beef and Sausage, Burgers and Pulled Pork! We hope you all
left the party with a full stomach!

In addition to the food we also had two specialty trucks, "A Cupcake Social" who featured
five of their favorite flavors and a smoothie truck.

And last but not least, the Fireworks Show! The show was magical and was wonderful to
watch from start to finish! Most of our members watched on the 1st tee box and I have to say
that may have been the best seat on the course! The show finished with an amazing finale
and it was a perfect way to top off a fantastic night!

Again, Thank you to all of our members who attended we were so happy to play a big part in
your holiday celebrations! We look forward to seeing you all next year!

skipped.

The Club is still offering discounted guest passes.  They may be purchased at the proshop.  A book of 10

GOLF ETIQUETTE “DO’S & DON’TS”

Pace of Play: You can play quickly, and have a relaxing game!  The following is a list of things that will help speed up play

and hopefully make everyone a more courteous golfer.

Keep up to the group ahead of you.  Don’t think of it as staying ahead of the group behind you, because they may be on a 5

hour pace.

Search for a lost ball not more than 2-3 minutes.  If you think the ball you have just hit is lost, announce that you are

hitting a provisional ball.  Keep in mind that the first ball you hit is the one that must be played unless it is lost.  If your first
ball is lost and you play the provisional ball, an additional stroke count must be taken.

Work with your cart partner to keep the cart moving forward - you should never have to walk backward to get your cart.

Additionally, when approaching the green, park your cart slightly beyond the green.  This ensures you are not going backward
to get your cart.

Be courteous.  Do not talk, or make any noise when someone is hitting or putting.  When you are searching for the correct

club(s) and remove them from your bag, do so quietly.

Have your cart partner watch your ball when you hit and vice-versa.  Line the ball up with something on the course to

make it easier to locate.

If you believe your ball may be lost or has been hit out of bounds, to save time, announce and hit a provisional ball.

Take several clubs with you when you approach your ball so you do not have to return to the cart if the lie or distance looks

different than you originally thought.

Always carry a second ball in your pocket in case you have to hit a provisional ball.

Plan your shot and select your club as you approach your ball or while you wait for other to play.  This allows you to set up

and hit the ball without additional time.

While on the putting surface the player furthest out putts first.  You may consider putting continuously until you hole out,

unless you are restricted by another player's line.  The first player to hole out is responsible for placing the flag back in the
hole once all players have completed putting.

Mark your score after reaching the next tee, not while you are on the green or in the cart at the green.

Play "READY GOLF" on the tee box, fairways and green unless hitting your ball puts you or someone else in a hazardous

position.  "Ready golf" requires you to be ready when it is your turn to hit and to be prepared to hit if you are ready and
another player has not reached their ball or is not ready to play.

GOLF CARTS are to be kept on the cart paths when possible and to remain a minimum of 30 feet from tees and greens.

By following the above etiquette rules you, your partner and other golfers on the course will have an enjoyable round.

CLUBS FOR CADDIES

Clean out those closets and garages for a good cause!   We have an
excellent class of caddies this summer. These kids would like to learn
more about the game of golf and have an opportunity to play the
game themselves; however, many do not have their own equipment.
That’s where our generous members come in:  please bring your gently
used clubs, bags, shoes and balls to the Pro Shop.  The staff will work
with our caddie master, Will, to put together sets for the caddies’ use.
