Youth Service Project

Grades 6-8
Bundles of Love Charity is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization that partners with
groups looking to assist Minnesota families in need by providing handmade baby clothing, bedding
and basic care items for their newborns. Their vision is to gather communities to support parents
and newborns. This January, students in Grades 6-8 have the opportunity to get together and
make tie blankets and put together baby supply care packages. Through their efforts they will help
bring peace of mind to families and provide essential supplies to show they are not alone and that
others care. Grab a friend and join us at the Lakeville Heritage Center! With the help of Lakeville
Area Active Adult volunteers, we can get wrapped up in the fun of making blankets. A snack and
hot chocolate will be served.

Aquatics & Safety

Learn to swim with Lakeville Area Community Ed!
Our caring and dedicated instructors are Red Cross trained and certified to help your child enjoy
developing swimming and water safety skills in a positive learning environment. Safety topics are
included in all classes: basic water safety, healthy swimming, safe water entry, helping yourself and
others in an emergency, and safe weather conditions for swimming. Pre-requisite for each level
is the mastery of skills from the preceding level or equivalent skills. Each child is provided with a
skill assessment within the first two classes to determine appropriate level placement. Each student
receives a progress report at the middle of the session and at the end of the session. It is common for
a child to repeat a level before mastering all skills. Semi-Private lessons must register 2 swimmers and
it is recommended the students are at a similar skill level.

For complete class descriptions and comparison of levels to other swim programs, please visit our website:

ECFE Early Childhood Family Education

Welcome to ECFE

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Lakeville Area School District Community Education
program that strengthens families with young children through education and support.
The components of most classes are:

1. Growing Together: For You and Your Child

The first half of each class is devoted to activities planned by a licensed early childhood teacher for parents
and children to explore together. Together you can enjoy learning through art, music, stories and a variety of
developmental activities. It is an opportunity to learn new ideas, games and activities that you can do at home.

2. Growing Independently: For Your Child

The remaining portion of each class is for children to have fun learning through play using art, movement, games
and stories with the early childhood teacher, the classroom assistant and the other children. New friendships are
formed and children discover new aspects of “me” while they learn apart from you. The goal of the children’s
program is to develop a healthy self-concept and a joy of learning.

3. Growing Confidently: For You

While children take part in the children’s program,
parents join with other parents in an informal
group setting for discussion time led by a licensed
parent educator. The challenges of being a parent are
enjoyable, complex, and at times, stressful. Parents
have the opportunity to choose and discuss current
family topics, share ideas and concerns and feel
encouraged by the support of others.

Early Childhood Family Education

ECFE Advisory Council

By Laura Carlson, Advisory Council Vice Chair

Growing up I have always been a part of ECFE. Not only
did I attend ECFE classes as a child, but my own mom
was an ECFE teacher for many years. I knew that I wanted
to share this experience that I had as a child with my own
children as well. Therefore, I started my very first ECFE
class when my first daughter was just one month old. I was
so excited to be a part of this program as I was beginning
the journey of motherhood.

I looked forward to going every week and being able to
interact with other parents. These classes have helped me
to gain advice in areas of uncertainty and have helped to
support me in my parenting decisions. I have learned things
about my child and about myself as well. I have continued
in the program since and have been a part of many different
classes with my daughter and now with my son. Another
thing I love about ECFE is the one on one time it allows
me to have with each of my children.

The classroom teachers provide us with an environment that The Carlson family
